This piece and many others like it express a level of hubris – that I'm an experienced clinician and therefore the way I wield this technology is Correct – that I find more than a little concerning. I'm worried about everyone in clinical medicine.

The question that’s dominating the field is not a causality question. It’s really, how can one sell a causal relationship while crafting the language so that there’s plausible deniability when somebody criticizes anything.

I find the view that philosophy is supposed to just pump out the maximum number of true propositions (and that LLMs can help with this) completely anathema. This is a humanistic field where we engage in collective inquiry together. LLMs destroy the collective trust at the base of that

this project is so cool. this is a former mining region and mijnwater uses saturated closed mining tunnels and galleries to transport excess heat and cooling between over 1000 houses and 20 major buildings and all municipal buildings

I don't have the words I need to discuss the loss of Jason Arday's young life. All I can say is that this internet age is especially violent, nasty, and despicable toward Black intellectuals. We are targeted more than any academic group esp if we are dark-skinned, fat, disabled, queer or trans.

The thing for which I will never forgive AI boosters in the academy is the way that we now operate almost reflexively with a sense of suspicion--if a piece is too well written, if it is too poorly written, we operate from a place of scepticism, rather than reparative belief in our students.

I understand that funding bodies want to go all in on AI as the shiny new innovation thing. But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.
