Again, 'El Niño-driven'! These wildfires are fuelled by deforestation, land clearing, peatland drainage for palm oil plantations, and anthropogenic climate change. To say 'El Niño-driven' deviates from the actual causes.

Here’s the monthly data with a 12-month trailing average, so we don’t “look ahead” of the time series. We can see that visits from Canada are substantially down. Like, a *lot*. And if we looked at the French series by itself we’d see something too. But it’s not on the scale of Covid. Yet.

There is sci-fi smut you can read with more realistic and coherent plots.
The day that Biden grew so angry at Netanyahu that he nearly cut him off: "He was just completely fed up with everything and I think at that moment he was ready to just say, 'I’m done,'" Brett McGurk recalls as he releases "Brink," his memoir of Gaza war. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
‘Ready to Blow His Stack’: How Biden Nearly Cut Off Netanyahu Over Gaza
Brett McGurk, who was the top Middle East adviser to President Joseph R. Biden Jr., offered the first inside-the-room account of American efforts to manage the Gaza war.

Lignin chemistry!!

I’ve drawn a line tree with the lignin polymer behind it. I’ve drawn it as one single polymer throughout! This messy, highly irregular biopolymer gives plants structural strength and helps protect their cell walls.

My car went rogue when i forgot to set the parking brake, left in drive, and exited it.
over the past few weeks several AI evaluation/cybersecurity experts have explained how what's happening is a result of human incompetence rather than "AI going rogue". I'm begging the media to show a shred of journalistic integrity and stop parroting what altman or amodei say
An OpenAI system has gone rogue again – and it is the most panic-inducing yet

‘I’d rather die than go back’: A Palestinian teen’s 10-month nightmare in Israeli jail

At 15, Zaid was separated from his parents, beaten, and starved. He is just one of hundreds of Palestinian children detained amid a post-Oct. 7 surge.

And if you’re under any illusion that your campus would handle sexual violence better… no, they wouldn’t.

I wrote a book about that:
On the Wrong Side: How Universities Protect Perpetrators and Betray Survivors of Sexual Violence
"Bedera dispels deeply ingrained campus rape myths and puts the innate violence of the campus sexual assault reporting process into focus."--Jezebel"The book's grim conclusions are tempered with a hop...

Smotrich & Ben-Gvir aren't fringe Twitchers, they're senior cabinet ministers! Smotrich controls the Finance Ministry and has major authority over the West Bank, & Ben-Gvir runs the police ministry. Both are on the security cabinet, and their parties are crucial to Netanyahu's governing coalition.

More detailed thread here on northern Gaza demolitions that aren’t yet reflected on Google imagery, and the timeline of how it happened (short answer is that if fall 2023-fall 2024 was the year of the 2,000-lb bomb for the IDF, fall 2024-fall 2025 was the year of the far-more-thorough bulldozer)
The area in red on the first map here is 1.25 square miles of Gaza City's Shejaiyah district, which the IDF has very thoroughly demolished with earthmovers over the past year.

The next 3 images show the extent of demolitions in that rectangle of Shejaiyah by Dec 2024, May 2025, and mid-Sept 2025:

So much money and energy directed at making the world worse.
I am not joking when I say this.

Most of the things genAI purports to “solve” are not in fact “problems.” Some are in fact crucial social and personal goods.

Does a life sentence in prison “solve” the problem of “permanent constraint on your personal mobility”? I guess? If you run a prison?

On this day 26 years ago I was a child watching another Palestinian child on tv, about my age, hide behind his dad & then get killed, because the soldiers shooting didnt value his life at all. His name was Mohammad al-Durra.

26 years later, the lives of Palestinian children matter even less.
