Probably doesn't matter anymore but:

"To lie" is what YOU do yourself: you lie down, you lie across, you lie on the bed.

"To lay" is what you do to OTHER PEOPLE OR THINGS: you lay the dress down on the bed, you lay your test sheet on the teacher's desk, you lay concrete in your basement.

#worldcon Okay, I officially love T. Kingfisher as a person, and not just a writer now.

#worldcon Foundational Fantasy panelists ALL white men, who fulfilled every expectation by spending 15 minutes on Tolkien, going from there to Lovecraft, saying he would've been less racist if he'd lived longer, and then calling Ursula Le FUCKING Guin too RECENT to be foundational.

30 years ago, when the population of the world wasn’t yet 6 billion, overpopulation was a huge topic. Can someone explain to me why now, with 8 billion people, when our cities are all in housing crisis, and AI is taking what jobs still exist away, we’re not talking about overpopulation at all?

Is it really awful to say “good riddance” about Lindsay Graham?

I had the absolute pleasure of beta-reading this MS a couple years ago and I can't wait to read the final version. It's an absolutely lovely fantasy of diaspora, lost culture, and love. Highly recommend! The Mystery of the Bitten Peach by Cecilia Tan.

Okay.

While my knee-jerk reaction to the Olivia Rodrigo babydoll dress controversy is an eye roll, we do have to recognize that Society is always recalibrating on things like this, and it’s absolutely appropriate to rethink this sort of thing.

So here goes:

So I was reading Pete Townshend's Wiki page and Who's Next's songs were supposed to be a really complex and weird rock opera. I feel like I've heard a lot of speculation about what Baba O'Riley means, but the Wiki page spells out a storyline that fits it perfectly. Was this always common knowledge?

The possessive case of a compound subject!!!

Jack's and Jill's hill is perfect for climbing.
Jack's and my hill-climbing record is unmatched.
Jill's and your history of tumbling is shocking.

When you have a compound subject/object, break it apart and proceed as usual.

Serious question: what stories do you need from a disabled, middle-aged, mixed race ("Wasian"), Chinese American woman?

I need inspiration and I've only ever successfully written things that come from my identity and experience in the world. But my flame has been stuttering for a while. Help?

Can we just be clear that Blake Lively's sexual harassment lawsuit was thrown out BECAUSE SHE WAS AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR and not bc Justin Baldoni didn't sexually harass her?

And can we normalize supporting even privileged, wealthy celebrities in these matters?

Took the only @questdiagnostics.bsky.social appt available this entire month, fasting at 10:30, and arrive at a full waiting room where people have been waiting more than an hour. There’s only ONE STAFFER here. Deliberate? Hungry, but I’ll be waiting until lunch.

Once again reading a book in which the author doesn’t understand how long fights last. They tried to make the point that one fighter was truly exceptional by saying his fight was won in “under three minutes, a record for the day.” LOL!

Although I like renaming Chavez things after Huerta, I like renaming them "Farm Worker" or "Labor" or something better and representative of the whole movement, even more.

Because it was Chavez' cult of personality that allowed him to rape. So let's not transfer that power to another personality.

I think everyone is thinking this.
Every single thing named after Cesar Chavez should be renamed for Dolores Huerta
God the Cesar Chavez stuff is just…men really should start out six feet under and work their way up.

Can anyone tell me what is biting me? I'm getting bites around my feet and ankles that are like mosquito bites except three times the size. So NOT fleas. And not a lot of bites.

No trope is more frustrating and boring than conflicts that arise purely out of a lack of communication. I’m not talking Romeo/Juliet-style couldn’t reach each other. I mean: see e/o every day but don’t share crucial life-and-death information. About to DNF the second book in a trilogy for this.

I moved 1.5 years ago, and had ten filing boxes full of paper doom piles, which I've been carting from place to place--and adding to--for DECADES. I also have a lot of organized files that are wildly out of date. I'm FINALLY going through them and shredding, and it is sooooooo satisfying!

Why are people talking about Op Ed? What did I miss?
March 2, 2026 at 6:14 AM
I’m just gonna keep saying it hoping people hear it: “enormity“ =\= “enormousness“. “Enormity“ means “extreme wickedness.” it’s appropriate applied to Jeffrey Epstein, not the Grand Canyon.
