so hey, not to be That Guy, but remember how SFF fans called for a boycott of Chengdu Worldcon on the basis of the CCP’s actions in Xinjiang and China potentially not being safe for certain authors? are we going to have a similar discussion about Seattle Worldcon given the circumstances, or -?

Tbh Worldcon cannot be held in the US right now and be Worldcon since it is not currently safe for anyone to travel here from another country

1/6. No, this is wrong. Not about the fuck up - it was HUGE - but the nature of the Worldcon is that each one is its own organization. The Glasgow Worldcon addressed the Chengdu fuck-up head on and was a model of transparency and went a great way to restore the credibility of the award.
Reminder that for the 2023 Hugo awards held in Chengdu they secretly disqualified any books whose authors they were afraid might offend the CCP. Fundamentally a non credible organization.

The late great Shawna Trpcic designed this bather-eaten-by-shark costume for me at my request. I no longer need it (and can barely zip it). A waist under 29 inches should fit comfortably. It's a little brittle, but still holding together! Let me know if you're in LA and would like it.

ICE thinks helping your host do chores in return for free accommodation = work needing a work visa. Doing panels, drinking in bars to network isn't paid either. More trouble than it's worth.
