1. FINAL CRISIS (2008, DC)

Final Crisis is my favourite event. There are many excellent reasons for saying it isn't the *best*, but it's the one that most fulfils the promise of my first, Secret Wars: an epic story only an event could tell

After the JLP/Reform video I’m less interested in asylum seekers vs attention seekers in Piddington and more interested in who’s doing their PR and what else they’re promoting /tinfoilhat

People come up to me and say can't we just do a whole tournament of third-place matches and I say Yeah baby yeah! but the Man won't let me, it's too powerful, they're afraid of its Power

I have seen both the series that were big winners at the Emmys, this is the most culturally engaged with TV I have been in about 35 years

This is what I keep coming back to - Sheeran’s image really sits on him being a good honest bloke and this is him picking an adjacent “I don’t really think about that kind of thing” blokedom rather than “I don’t bang on about it but I know what’s right”
But like, a huge part of his appeal is that he's a singer-songwriter who was seen as having emotional integrity, even if he was always an unabashed mass culture populist, and now nothing he says is going to sound honest, ever again

It takes a special skill to make your first contribution on an actual "culture" issue in 11 months and have it be defending Ed Sheeran.
He’s really, really not, Lisa. The path in front of him was wide open. Instead, he sucked up to the billionaire. Much like the Labour Party… oh.

They should actually just swap each universe’s Guardians, the key to time can be controlled by pedantic blue nerds and Green Lantern can take orders from a posh Brit in a white safari suit

You can see where the budget went!
The first episode of The Tripods was broadcast on this day in 1984.

A thing about ‘cancelling’ is that honestly I don’t have room for more than three or four bits of knowledge about a lot of famous people and if one of them is “has shitty opinions on something I care a lot about” that’s going to become very salient

This is a much less interesting match than yesterday’s even if I think one album is really good and one is okay

I guess what I’m most on the fence with about this show is how effective the downplaying of the SF aspects has been: I never felt like the manhunter was an alien threat; Sinestro looks like a guy who’s redded up for some kind of unfathomable racist prank, etc
Caught up with LANTERNS, kind of glad that the 2016 plot seems to have wrapped as I was getting decreasingly interested in the Hal v John conflict, I like that they have kept “The Guardians are terrible bosses” as the one inviolable part of the Green Lantern mythos
New one of this was a real battle between “these people are acting very well” and “oh no it’s a flashback episode, the tv thing I hate most”

I can’t reply but science has shown that the band that best fits this bill (colossal in US, barely known in UK) may be SUBLIME

90% of huge country songs too ofc
This sounds like a job for @tomewing.bsky.social

Saw episode 1 of LANTERNS and honestly impressed how they’ve captured the essence of Hal Jordan as An Annoying Guy and John Stewart as Kind Of A Square and yet both are somehow enormously watchable

I refuse to believe that major stadium venues would have cancelled their Ed Sheeran concerts rather than allow Macklemore on the bill. There was an opportunity for Sheeran to use his commercial weight to force the issue, and he folded immediately.

My answer to this is probably Flaubert’s Dictionary Of Recieved Ideas (written in the 1870s), before that were in the wry smile zone
