The preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly is now at a record 3.23°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. This crushes the previous daily record set in 1982 by over 1.14°C.

The preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly is now at a record 3.23°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. This crushes the previous daily record set in 1982 by over 1.14°C.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but seems we have equaled the largest temperature departure from normal (+0.73 on 10 Jan 2024) in the global ocean since records began. If the 2023 El Nino (blue line) is a guide, still more ocean warming to come. #buckleup
