I think both can be true? Like literally everything in my life comes from the internet -- my kid, my friends, my job, my hobbies -- and I've been here since like 1996, but I still have my psychologist being like "you gotta follow more fat liberation on instagram, Mary, that place will kill you."
I feel like there's a cohort of us who got on the internet before "social media" and made all sorts of healthy friendships through forums or livejournal or what have you and thus, while everyone's like SOCIAL MEDIA FUELS COMPARISON AND MISERY we're like, but that's just where my friends live.
Without the online friends I’ve made over the years, some of whom have become offline friends (even recently!), I would be a much, much lonelier person.
Social media feels evil sometimes, but it makes some miracles too.
