just heard a foundation declare its mission as reducing "polarization" as though there's some sweet spot halfway between white supremacy/radical inequality/climate denial and the opposite we should all aim for. There isn't. Been railing against it forever.

So true. We build coping strategies before we consciously realise we need them. Disassembling something, that was so unwittingly & haphazardly made, is incredibly tricky
A lot of autistic adults say they “don’t feel like themselves”
What they mean is that they built themselves around survival and not even know.
Who they are depends on who’s in the room, what’s expected, and what’s allowed
So when the expectations drop we think we don't know ourselves.

My autistic historical head-canon is Socrates. He was always asking questions, seemed to ignore typical hierarchies of power, had a strong sense of justice/injustice. His reaction to being unfairly prosecuted was requesting an apology. He died rather than contradict his morals / leave his home city.
I headcanon Moses as autistic. He can’t talk to people for shit, but understands SO MUCH, & just gets frustrated. Needs a lot of alone time in the ohel moed. Doesn’t care about hierarchy; he’s thrilled Eldad & Medad can prophecy, too. Micromanages justice among the Israelites. Autistic hero. #Jewish
