This is probably a little mean but honestly I have a *real* tough time biting my tongue around people who are clearly very into politics but also do not understand even the basics of politics

I mean things like saying "it's not like the electoral college is in the Constitution or something"

One of the things I find frustrating about sci-fi is that because of the American influence of it, all of the planets are called things like Zexion 5 and Danshassia 7. I’d call them things like ‘Nether Roundthorpe’ and ‘Spheresbury’. Gravity Bywell. Chalfont St Globeby. Bishop’s Goitre.

I can't even joke about this, on Election Night of 2024 I honestly wondered aloud how long it would be before we saw "ebola spreading" and "the plague is back" headlines

pretty sure I said "a couple of years" and it turns out I was being too optimistic

Not sure many people these days know in that Congress revealed in 1975 that the CIA had at least 50 American journalists as assets, and in 1977 Carl Bernstein reported it was more like 400 journalists as assets, at places like NYT, CBS, WaPo, NBC, AP, UPI and Reuters.

Wonder if that's changed?

Wow, didn't realize that Morello and company protested the 2000 Democratic National Convention, thus playing their (small) part in giving us George W. Bush (hence the Iraq War disaster, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, retreat from climate action, etc. etc.). F'ing dumbasses.

Yesterday Roger Marshall started airing commercials claiming Adam Hamilton "protected a pedophile," a rehash of a claim made back in May which was almost immediately debunked. Huge loser energy.

The ads were probably made before the super PAC stepped in but I can't believe they allowed them to run.
Big news in the Senate battle.

After pouring $30 million in NC, John Thune's GOP SuperPAC stops spending there, effectively conceding Cooper is likely to win.

And they're dumping their first 7-figures in Kansas. (Note: a Dem internal found Hamilton up today.) www.semafor.com/article/10/0...

Still irritated by that thread a year or so ago where a small group of economist "leftists" on here got themselves so tangled up in trying to justify their "everyone in red states should suffer and die" position that they insisted states didn't get federal funding for local ICE and LE

This is absolutely true but also a lot of the domestic intelligence activity in the past was marred by rank stupidity; read up on Operation CHAOS, JFK, Manson, MKULTRA etc. and you'll read example after example of stupid right-wingers botching things repeatedly
