I expect this to happen for a very simple reason: it's easy for a professional team to take a moral stand over a player's behavior when that player sucks

and sophie cunningham sucks

Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

I don’t really care about my 401(k) because i am not likely to ever retire, but that said, it is somewhat infuriating to watch the number go down because of our large adult president

Quick shout-out to the guy who was talking to one of our patron services chatbots and calling it "shitbot" and constantly insulting it even after it asked not to, even though, in actual point, we don't use patron service chatbots and the stream of abuse was aimed at an actual person.

🧅🌐 The Onion has been making the news absurd for decades. Founded as a college newspaper in 1988, it launched online in 1996, bringing its ridiculous headlines, stories & snark to the web. 30 years later, it’s still going strong.

When the protection is excessively long, it serves primarily to enrich corporations who actually care about that time scale.

I think e.g. histories of rural Saskatchewan townships until 1980 would benefit humanity far more if it entered the public domain in say 2030 rather than **2081**

October is the month of:
-libraries
-lgbtqia2s+ history
-pitbull awareness
-everything spoopy

That’s a stellar month and helps balance the less good parts of the month (Alberta referendum).

yeah that’s the extra depressing part, the thought that if we actually managed to jail Trump for Jan 6, 2024 might have still gone the way it did on the basis of “Biden old and Trump did nothing wrong”

deeply unpleasant scenario to consider
I guess it wouldn’t have been so much better if we did the thing with our guy

feels like at least part of what is happening is that a lot of people want politics to solve the "my life feels empty" problem and the populist right is directly appealing to them

and honestly, losing either statewide race in texas is something close to a strategic defeat. it completely upsets the political map going forward. it would be similar to trump winning new jersey in 2024 (where he came close).

Somehow, Brazil saw what the US went through with Trump 2 and decided, what if we elected Trump Jr instead.
