I don’t get the feeling Lanterns knows what Manhunters are; not in a “misunderstanding of the source material” way but a “no grounding in the show’s own narrative logic” kind of way, they just exist as an astray point of conflict.

In practice, AI literacy doesn’t start with building the tool for your personal use. It starts with understanding yourself as a collection of tasks who should subcontract those out to a machine. Almost no regular person’s life currently exists as such.
Truly, the first time I've read an AI critique that ties into cultural competency, and I'm honestly embarrassed I never considered that angle (mostly because I find using it to be morally radioactive to begin with).
And there is no reasonable interface that I can imagine ever existing that would translate those skills in a culturally competent way — and it’s all cultural — for people to make that leap.

Think about how long it has been since you first saw headlines about Harvey Weinstein’s violence.

Nine years after #MeToo went viral, his case(s) are still working their way through the criminal justice system.

This is (one of a long list of reasons) why survivors don’t report.

A large part of this is bc we classify "what we know" in terms of tangible things, rarely is this adage used to mean writing ab any kind of emotion (especially complex emotion), so when someone hears "write what you know," it doesn't encompasses things like grief or joy or anxiety, etc.
Writing "wisdom" I hate:

WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW.

This is the worst advice ever.

It would be better if it was KNOW MORE SO YOU CAN WRITE ABOUT IT.

Every good writer I know is constantly researching and getting new information and asking experts.

It's a terrible bit of advice!

It actually happened: watching New Girl & get asked “who is that?” & immediately respond w/ “Dylan McDermott…wait…fuck…[several bumbling attempts to recover]…Dermot Mulroney!”

Right now, Virginia’s constitution does not explicitly mention abortion. If Virginians vote yes on this referendum, the right to reproductive freedom would be constitutionally protected.
The reproductive freedom question on your ballot explained
Virginia voters will decide whether to change what the state constitution says about reproductive health, including birth control, prenatal care, abortion and miscarriage management.

Watching Supergirl tonight & I’d truly appreciate if screenplays just did away w/ extended flashbacks for a long period of time (if not forever). It devastates the pacing & also cuts the emotional core at the knees bc it never allows the character to experience it in the moment.

I used to think we’d gotten to a point where people could reasonably conceive how much a million is but watching people argue ab expansion in sports & state that 1 mil people isn’t enough to support major multiple major sports…well, it’s made me reverse my thinking quite drastically.

Re: Brubaker, Ellis, etc.

Good work is good work. I don't feel duped for having bought and enjoyed good stories. HOWEVER, good work is not unique. And let it be known that producing good work does not allow for bad behavior. It is also not a shield that will prevent someone from kicking your ass.

It's also galling to me that everyone wants to do scammer discourse when donations to Palestinian fundraisers have dried up

People often go months without a single donation

Many people have stopped asking entirely

So what are you so upset about?

the thing is

like

public health
child literacy
civil rights
social justice
rural poverty

once you personally have become rich and successful, those things only matter if you still have the capacity to care deeply about people outside your immediate circle

and that is harder than becoming rich
