we had decades of the cultural zeigeist in larges parts of entertainment and academia being 'you can't trust THE MAN' and it did absolutely nothing whatsoever to make people more resistant to actual no-shit authoritarian and corrupt politics and leaders, and I wish more people would reflect on this.
I do think this is a really insidious result of all of the “government is useless and corrupt” propaganda that’s been pushed over the years - people don’t realize how much worse these assholes have made it

honestly I think a lot of places around the world need to start looking hard at regulation about hiring processes even beyond government work. I'm watching my entire generation face down an insane employment crisis of people spending years on end submitting applications and getting nothing

I think overhauling federal hiring practices and procedures is a do-or-die step for the next administration. You cannot rebuild the federal government without rebuilding the federal workforce, and USAJobs et al is just not fit for purpose

There is somehow a prevailing school of thought amongst both tankies and really serious think tank guys that China and Russia being geographically large is a fundamental law of the universe and any deviation from that risks consensus reality as a whole

I think Henry Ford promoted it for shitty reasons but I actually think square dancing was a fairly fun unit in high school P.E. and it gave kids who didn't like competition sports a fun outlet for a few weeks. Maybe just balance it out with dancing units from other cultures, too.
