the social/political moment is such that I can finally admit a deeply shameful secret I've carried for years: I still like the song "Thrift Shop"

reticent = “RET-uh-sunt”

epitome = “ih-PIT-uh-mee”

Never make fun of someone if they mispronounce a word.

It means they learned it by reading.

I know Facebook/Meta are pure, hot garbage but even still, it's weird that this morning, in particular, my feed is being flooded w/ follow suggestions for far-right/anti-trans/hate accounts, even though my search/engagement/posting history in no way should direct the algorithm to deliver that crap

insects make the world go 'round 🐛🦋🪲
This is a pro-bug propaganda piece
The 'bird person' to 'bug person' pipeline is real, but every person stands to benefit from helping insects to thrive in an increasingly hostile environment.

it's weird that reddit seemingly solved (at least part of the) cyclosporia outbreak before the CDC and FDA, right? like, that's not really the way it's supposed to work, is it?

We’re never going to live on Mars.

We’re never going to live on the Moon.

There is no Planet B.

We need to take care of our magical mystical miraculous planet like it’s the only home we will ever have.

Because it is.

Democratic candidates -- ESPECIALLY in Mich. -- need to leverage this💩 🥬 outbreak to help disengaged voters to understand how/why politics/voting impacts their daily lives. Things like food safety & public health infrastructure matter & they require politicians who commit to funding them.

In the midst of a multistate cyclospora outbreak, reminder that the CDC last year scaled back a program that monitored, among other things, cyclospora. There's money to pay for pools, ballrooms, bombs, ICE, etc. but no money to fund our most basic food safety? www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...
The CDC quietly scaled back a surveillance program for foodborne illnesses
As of July 1, a critical surveillance program is monitoring for only two pathogens instead of the usual eight.
