I refuse to believe that a lot of people don’t understand that AI images/videos are generated off of existing real content. This means that this ‘American right’ allows anyone to type in a prompt of child abuse, wait for a computer to mash 100s of real victims together, and spit out a new image.

As a disabled person i was amazed at the amount of accessible options that suddenly became available. I really felt like it had changed the world for the better. Then it all just got taken away and the world moved on and left us behind. Alone. I actually felt genuine grief.
Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause.
That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

I bang on about this, but this is an initiative across industries to convince consumers that persistent surveillance is a benefit to the user when it’s actually an attempt to turn consumers into a constant source of data (far beyond the ways we currently are).

just my two immunosuppressed cents but I think a big part of that “dealing badly with” includes referring to that trauma as past tense and not acknowledging it as something that is still being actively inflicted on some of the most marginalized people imaginable
One of my Crank Theories of Everything, at least of Everything in the Recent Past, is that we are dealing (badly) with COVID trauma we’d mostly prefer to pretend never happened.
