Hi, #Scriptsky. I'm Peter Briggs: I sold my first spec to Fox in '92. I'm credited co-writer on the 2004 movie "Hellboy"; past 30 years I've been hired-by or sold specs to all the major studios.

My side hustle: I provide consultancy to emerging screenwriters serious about their craft. Links above!

My official MMUK obituary for the great George Fenton.

Another O.G. composer pens his final notes.

An ex girlfriend of mine worked on a screenplay with George Fenton. He really wanted to direct.

My favourite movie scores of Fenton's: "Memphis Belle", "Dangerous Liasions", "Fisher King", "Anna and the King."

Huge shame. RIP.

I only knew Malcolm Edwards slightly. When mutual friend John Brosnan died, Malcolm asked if I'd pen a piece for his wake. Malcolm was a lovely, lovely chap. RIP.

Worth reposting this article from two years ago. Very much a Primer for any Democrat who loses this time. I don't think it's a coincidence that Elon Musk is "suddenly" back on the Government books, with only weeks to the Midterms.

The states in aqua green have same day voter registration which means you can register and vote on the same day. The states in white require you to register before (usually 28/30 days before). In Florida the deadline to register to vote is MONDAY October 5, 2026. Get your act together. 🗳️

Fuck Space X. Stop calling it a private space company. It’s socialized risk (we subsidize it), privatized reward (fElon reaps the benefits).
Stop giving that asshole government contracts. NASA didn’t need some entitled parasite’s help getting to the moon before. It doesn’t need it now.

"In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?"

Hmm. Maybe the Doctor Who "Claws Of Axos" creatures? I'd have been 5. Although I don't know if I was so much frightened, as fascinated.

I've an abiding thing for tentacles ever since.

America. Find your Cable Street.

Today is the 90th anniversary of the 'Battle of Cable Street' when residents of Tower Hamlets in East London blocked roads to prevent the British Union of Fascists from marching through the area.

I'm astonishing anal about organisation, but I'm slowly coming around to a strange aesthetic notion that my environment will be more conducive to writing with bookshelves organised by colors. I'm not sure how it's going to aid finding a book in a hurry, but it sure is pleasing to the eye...

On "Day Of Dredd" I want to bring out:

1) I was one of the screenwriters on the pre-Stallone "Judge Dredd" movie (back when it was going to be @schwarzenegger.bsky.social playing Dredd, and Tony Scott directing) and:

2) Lovely @2000ad.bsky.social writer Gordon Rennie killed me in the comic once!

Another wacky "blink and you'll miss it" insert in Mamet's "State And Main": The ridiculous plotline of Philip Seymour Hoffman's writer-character's play on the back of the Faber and Faber paperback, tucked in his sports-coat pocket. #filmsky

There's an absurd "blink and you'll miss it" meta-moment insert in Mamet's "State And Main": Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rebecca Pidgeon in a diner reading the screenplay his writer-character's agonising rewriting, yet the script pages are weirdly an alternate version of the film they're in. #filmsky

On the plus side, the Godawful "Discovery" branding is history and Zaslav's gone. Let's have SOME cheer!

Happy #LetterboxdFriday! Time to post your #LastFourWatched 📲

• Rollicking WW2 Boys-Own Naval yarn.
• Unusual okay Cowboy Army movie.
• Movie sucked 28 years ago...sucks still today.
• Mamet I didn't like 26 years ago, I thoroughly enjoyed! Go figure!

Rewatched the misguided "Avengers" adaption last night. Clever lines mangled by both - surprisingly - Sean Connery and Uma Thurman. Ralph Fiennes could have been great, but the movie sucked in '98, and still sucks now. Eddie Izzard turns up!

Did give us this gloriously daffy shot... #filmsky

So Warner Brothers is going to stay Warner Brothers, just with "A Skydance Corporation" on it, beneath the logo like Paramount?

Okay, I'm good with that. Thank Christ the "Curse Of The Discovery" suffix is gone...

Now if Ellison can just leave the studio the hell alone to run itself like before...

🎃spooky season #promosky🎃

I'm Peter!

I co-wrote the 2004 "Hellboy" movie, published by Penguin, produced on TV, done comics, written for the L.A. Times, been a BBC correspondent. Mentor new writers.

I live for movies and flirty ladies. I'm just a simple man, trying to make my way in the Universe.

I forgot "Hellzapoppin'" in my September watch list! Spielberg always referenced it during "1941"...not surprised, as a bunch of gags are clearly stolen for his movie!

I was gobsmacked. It's basically a "Naked Gun" movie, with continuous jokes. Goofy, and I enjoyed every second of it. #filmsky

What's your "origin" video game?

I played "Pong". Then "Space Invaders" on the arcade, and "Asteroids". "Battle Zone", "Tempest". The Atari 2600 console: "Zaxxon"

But this baby made the Arcade owner pull the cord on the machine in irritation because I could play on one coin, forever.

"Star Wars".
