alive. taking a break. occasionally lurking.

They can try and hide the stars. They can fill the air with a shroud, distract us with their smoke show pollution.
They can blindfold everyone around
But they cannot strangle the stars.

Keep on shining, friend. You are seen; you are loved; you are here. ✨
Ranking back matter from most to least sexy:
1. Typeface history (makes ANY book better)
2. A good Epilogue (Hell yeah, more book!)
3. Afterword (or Appendix) that expands on the context 🤤
4. Bibliography (specifically one that gives me more good book recommendations) 📚 💙
Breaking my silence because we’re finally on the topic of fonts:

I love when they include a typeface page at the end of a book. All books with a font colophon in the back matter are like 20% sexier for some reason and I will bump up my rating if it includes a solid font usage history.

whatever feels life or death right now is not likely to be solved in the time it takes you to do those things.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but constant, chaotic, unfiltered news and social media can overwhelm the mind—flooding your attention, stirring up emotions, and making it hard to think clearly.

It’s okay to step back and be selective about what you let in. Your mental well-being matters.

My favorite spot on the planet has slowly become the favorite spot of a couple in my neighborhood and it’s like great that they enjoy sitting there but if they could leave it open like once a week so I could watch the sunset like I used to that would be great. 😣

Someone beat me there, but it’ll be alright. I’m sure they’ll order more copies very soon and we’ll be tied then. 📚 💙

On reading, enjoying the summer scenery, and preparing for the hike that awaits.
Last breaths before we go on
Our second hike of the summer went much better than the first. My dad and I found ourselves surrounded by a gorgeous view of Mill’s Lake after a good hike through the trees. It had only been …

This week has been so funny bc I’ve been watching Doctor Who, reading Percy Jackson, and yesterday I stayed up late playing Minecraft. Most middle-school-me vibes I’ve felt in a long time 😂

Bingo! 🥳 📚 💙

#readzamas
I will have bingo after I finish The Blood of Olympus, which has been on my TBR since 2014 when I first read TLT. (Although I didn’t start reading HoO until 2024).

* Also if ‘just for funsies’ means to stop my cousin from pestering me for taking my time

A little over a week left in #Readzamas so here’s my update:

Very close to a bingo (if only by virtue of doubling up on books that count for multiple spots).

As a tribute to Dolly, why not donate a book? Leave one is a free library. Give one to a friend or neighbor or child. Buy one for a teacher’s wishlist. If you have book donation ideas, add them to this thread. Dolly would love to see people getting books!

Some general principles for "should you comment on the thing?"
1-Does it NEED to be said?
2-Does it need to be said BY ME?
3-Does it need to be said by me RIGHT NOW?
4-Is it honest?
and maybe most important:
5-Is it *kind*?

If you have a yes to all five q's, then yes, go ahead.
