The thing that gets me personally about this is that the main reason why I like stories set in places I've lived is getting to experience a place I'm deeply familiar with through a new and different perspective (with pointing out places I recognize being a fun side benefit)
No that same person posted this it’s somehow even sadder than you think

Most smart home and internet of things stuff doesn't interest me, but the one thing that'd be really nice would be being able to connect my bedroom lights to my alarm clock so they turn on about 30 minutes before my alarm goes off

This is a moral atrocity and it needs to be loudly condemned as such. There is a reason that democracies *don't* do publicly televised executions (and why many don't execute people at all): it inculcates and rewards bloodthirst, which corrupts the spirit and corrodes the foundation of the polity.

So much of Silicon Valley and therefore also genAI boosterism is motivated, on a deep and fundamental level, by petty resentment that other people are allowed to exist.
maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Seriously, please don't be too shy or polite to ask for ICE whistles if you need them, especially in SoCal. A bunch of us have stockpiles all ready to go in case of surges, if you have the ability to pass them out, we have the whistles!

the report, from professionals in the relevant fields, says that ADHD and autism is under-diagnosed and people affected by that are not given enough support in an appropriate and timely manner.

but that’s not the result the government wants, so that means the spin apparatus has chosen this form.
Pleased to announce that ADHD is being overdiagnosed again according to the BBC and pathetic skidmark Wes Streeting, so now - during ADHD Awareness Month no less - it's time to give it up and just be normal. Let it go. Just turn it off and get on with things www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says government review
The review, which focuses on younger age groups, warned there was a risk society was moving from an era of under-diagnosis to over-diagnosis or mis-diagnosis.

When I started writing about Supreme Court expansion, you couldn’t get the question *asked* in a poll.
The first time I saw it actually polled, it was 8%.

Now, we here.
Kind of a buried lede in the results of this Supreme Court approval rating poll from Marquette: Overall support for Supreme Court expansion, which even Democratic politicians were dismissing as "radical" just a few years ago, is now at 53 percent today.marquette.edu/2026/09/marq...

When I go to the doctors and say “doctor my back hurts and has done for twenty six years”, and they say “no it doesn’t; there’s nothing wrong with your back”, my back doesn’t stop hurting.
If you have run the Gladiators Gauntlet style diagnostic process and are told "You don't have (diagnosis of choice)," the response isn't relief that that test has come back clean, because all the problems that led you to seek diagnosis still exist.
