We were lucky enough to spend a few weeks in New York city in September. There's so much great new (to me) architecture! The Perelman Center and One World Trade Center.

Maine lobster buoys are required to have a unique color pattern which is matched by a color pattern on the hull of the lobster boat. The license number of the lobsterman must also be displayed on the buoy. These requirements allow for easy identification of the buoys and help reduce theft.

“Keep it Dark” is a Truckee initiative to protect an increasingly scarce resource, dark night skies. Photographing the night sky is one of my favorite parts about the mountains. This weekend is the awards ceremony for the Keep it Dark photo contest, at Truckee Airport from 5-7 PM on Friday, Oct 2nd.

Lake of the Woods, on the border of Minnesota and Canada, holds almost 15,000 islands. Many of the islands are occupied with summer cabins and residents travel everywhere by boat. We were lucky enough to spend a few days on Arcadia Island in August. It was magical.

Seems like every photographer that goes to New York City posts a picture of The Oculus, the transportation hub designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava at the site of the World Trade Towers. And for good reason - it’s a spectacularly beautiful structure. Here’s one of my photos.

2,983 people. The scale is overwhelming. Each morning, volunteers place a white rose beside the name of anyone who would have been celebrating a birthday that day, or an American flag beside the names of fallen firefighters. A simple tribute to the lives lost by this devastating act of terror.
