It's cold and snowy back in the hills lately. Just north of Sid's Fork, the townspeople say a strange howling wind comes rattling down off the ridge sometimes. Probably nothing right?

there are old games i'm in the process of preserving with rewrites where i could probably get permission to make the original source code public, but i'm hesitant to do that until the ports are complete, even if it would help draw support, because i don't want drive-by vibe coders to show up -_-'

unbidden keto lesson APPARENTLY: if you decide to eat some Reese's Pieces off plan during a family visit and then go to bed you may have nightmares all night and then wake up feeling like absolute shittttt

between the last of the cash i had stashed around the house for emergencies and several small lucky breaks stacking up, i think we might just barely be able to make ends meet this month :') yay!

This is why having utility doesn't exclude something from being art.

A car engine is art to people who love cars.
A mechanical watch is art to people who love watches.
A codebase is art to people who love code.
I frequently see "AI" boosters implying that LLMs are simply an innate and superior part of coding now, inescapable, and that literally all programmers agree with them.

And, well. That, too, is a form of propaganda

increasingly the phrase i feel most encapsulates how i feel about the current moment of the software industry, the game industry, and the economy at large is "conscientious objection"

so I'm installing Microsoft Edge to test an exception someone had in Priiism. the compressed installer is over 400 MB. The uncompressed .app is ONE GIGABYTE IN SIZE.

Imagine looking at the media landscape—music, books, movies—and concluding that it would be better if it were all simply infinite reflections of yourself, if you never had to be exposed to another personality, another experience, another life. Just you, you, you.

Sounds fucking horrifying.
When you have no concept of how people engage with music

I’ve been noting that one of the main use cases that everyday users had already been putting LLMs and agents to use is the compilation of dossiers for peer-on-peer surveillance and automated gang-stalking (swarm-stalking) of other citizens, so of course Meta is copying that as a feature.
“…Muse can be easily prompted to compile dossiers on Facebook and Instagram accounts belonging to members of vulnerable groups – including undocumented immigrants, transgender teachers, poll workers, Iranian dissidents, and women who said they had ordered abortion pills in states with abortion bans”
Dox for Me, O Muse
Muse AI can leverage Facebook data to build lists of people in vulnerable groups on request for ordinary users.

That's a $96,318 fine for being raped.
"Meanwhile, Jane Doe dropped out of Cornell and was denied her request to get her tuition refunded so that she could transfer to a different college. She hence faced more severe consequences than most of the men who she alleges gang-raped her."

What It Feels Like at Cornell Right Now
As a professor at the Ivy League school, Kate Manne has known many, many victims. There’s a palpable feeling on campus, she writes, that this is big.

At least let me describe in detail exactly how I was going to win if the game had continued just a little longer and no-one else had done anything

it's been really fun learning Fennel and writing my first little project in it this month. the game is only about 3500 lines of code so far, and I bet if I got good at macros it would be more terse still
