The Way Home is a crime novel, sure, but as a writer from The Wire, George Pelecanos has a much more nuanced story to tell.

Bonesland is a rude, horny and unflinchingly honest book about coming of age in small-town Australia. It walks – and maybe crosses – a fine line between featuring racist characters and actually being racist.

There are many reasons to use something other than Substack, and the one that I'm feeling right now is 'trying to read a damn thing while not having to install the stupid app'.

It's turning into Facebook. If I can't read your thing in the browser, I'm simply not reading it.

This profile of Mr T is INCREDIBLE. Every quote is an all-timer.

"People were concerned that I had too much gold and they asked me if it was too heavy. Nobody said to my ancestors: ‘That pregnant lady shouldn’t be in chains.’"
‘I don’t chase the dollar. I never did’: the astonishing hidden life of Mr T
He grew up in the ghetto, became a global superstar – then gave it all up. Why did he step away from the spotlight?
