Urban bikers, even when just running errands, recording on bike apps can help planners know where to put protected lanes, anonymized. Set those rides to private to not junk up your followers. Academic data analysts: here's a program in the same vein. press.strava.com/artic…

Brazil is not exactly bike-friendly, but there are glimmers of change here and there. This sign on a rest-stop service station and restaurant outside São Paulo is aimed at sport riders: "Cyclists welcome! Available for free use: patches for tire tubes, air pumps, tool kits."

Amazing stuff going on in Paris, in the 13th year of its bicycling transformation. This first map shows bike lanes built just since 2021, generally protected. Does not include local extensions under a neighborhood program.

Cars are now used within Paris for just 9% of total trips, less than bikes and far less than public transit. If you visit Paris, don't mess up the stats.

In Copenhagen, nearly half of work and school commutes are by bike and most of the rest on foot or by transit. But in the 1970s it was becoming a car town. A freeway was to be built right through the core. No one had the benefit of hindsight then to see what that sort of thing does to downtowns.

London has added about 340 km of bike lanes in the past decade. Total car traffic there is still below the level of 2019, before Covid and remote work rearranged travel patterns. But bike travel is up 43%, to 1.5 million trips a day.

After seeing London bike trips reach 1.5 million/day & the air scrubbed clean by car limits, UK govt. launches third national investment plan for walking and cycling. $6bn in ten years. National safe-routes-to-school program. Goal to drop child crash deaths by 70%. www.gov.uk/government/p...

Getting into the shoulder season with less summer heat in Europe and the wine harvest. This cycle track crosses the heart of Burgundy. If Pommard, Montrachet, and Meursault mean anything to you, you get it. Amenities include trailside cafés serving French food, known locally as food.

Adapting cities to the new light-electric mobility is a worldwide issue. E-motos are too efficient and cheap to let them be driven off the roads by cars, but too fast to mix with bicycles on the bike lane, much less with people on sidewalks.

I'm a fan of developing countries that develop. Been traveling for decades to the western backlands of the state of Bahia, Brazil to visit family. Never seen transportation conditions as good as last week, both there and in the coastal capital Salvador.

Love these all-electric buses in São Paulo, hundreds of them. So much quieter than diesel, with no urban air pollution. And this being Brazil, they're running on wind, sunshine, and river power.

This interview-while-riding is about AOC's views on transportation and freedom, but one other detail caught my eye. She and the journalist wait patiently at a light next to two cars, each maybe two tons. When they start up again nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/07/24/f...

World's most-liveable cities as usual are in Scandinavia and German-speaking Europe.
Second best are in Australia, New Zealand, Japan
US continues to trail Canadian cities, with only Honolulu close.
Worst of all is Damascus.
