A minimum population size for local government in general would solve literally hundreds of problems. Lots of cities should be annexed or disincorporated.
the degree of both autonomy and corruption inside tiny police departments in the U.S. is ridiculous.
Incredible headline here (among other things)

Sorry, but we're not welcoming any Trump cabinet members to The War on Cars.
*chokes on own saliva 😂

Ah yes, in a country that designed by force, car dependency into its entire built landscape, making car ownership and driving the first basic requirement to participate in society.
The trick to lowering gas prices is driving less, US energy secretary says
AAA said Labor Day travelers can expect the highest gas prices ever for this time of year. The national average for regular gas was $4.14 on Sunday.

This year, when the budget came before the Board, Joel Young contributed nothing. When the reliability report came, Young said nothing. He never brings any agenda items. When asked six years ago whether serving on the Board was worth it, he cited only the travel stipend.
Why is he here at all?
Joel Young has a long record of harassment and misconduct, which too many people have looked the other way on.

Let's leave no room for harassers in the East Bay. Oakland and Alameda residents can vote him out November.
AC Transit and Director Joel Young thought they could sweep his harassment under the rug by hiding it and then lying about it.

No way were we going to let that happen.

Young isn’t fit for office, and since his colleagues won’t hold him accountable, voters must.

Listen I think Zohran has gotta consider firing Tisch over stuff like this.
Despite the mayor's big announcement yesterday, I'm not sure New York can achieve Vision Zero when the police commissioner allows sidewalk parking and won't punish cops who brutalize citizens for trying to get them to stop.

The top cop's decision came even though the NYPD's patrol guide prohibits both excessive force and bars officers from parking on the sidewalk.

Gender-based harassment shouldn't happen at a transit board public meeting, or anywhere else for that matter.

Director Joel Young should resign.

"This is the responsibility of the AC Transit General Manager, not me" - man elected to body empowered to hire or fire AC Transit General Manager
Joel Young is blaming AC Transit’s declining bus reliability on Oakland installing bike lanes on some transit streets.

Never mind that reliability is degrading across trunk routes - regardless whether bike lanes have been installed or not.

This transcript is incomplete. He said "Give us another chance - or - give us another couple of years..."

The "or" is that suddenly-staccato kind where someone realizes they misspoke and implicitly ask their listener to let them start over. (Another chance, as in, we failed)

And here is where his harassment was caught on camera.

This is not a misinterpreted friendly gesture. (He and Syed are not friends.) This is straight-up aggression - "You can't stop me from doing this."

So many things this applies to
you are not savvy if you think this. you are stupid. that is a stupid thing to think. you would have a much more accurate conception of the world if you naively took people at their word on everything.

We need a running list of all the “Carmageddons” that never materialized. I have 3 just from California alone.
Yet again, traffic engineers are gobsmacked that a road closure didn't create crippling gridlock:

"You’d never know that a massive highway project, ominously dubbed 'carmageddon,' was underway seven miles away...cars [were] speeding across the Interstate Bridge at their usual clip."

Woke: the blurrier version was downscaled specifically to avoid triggering AI checkers

Bespoke: all of these are an op to discredit genuine photos when they come out
It's probably not real, but that's the upscaled version which is by necessity AI

The blurrier version has been claimed to be authentic, but there doesn't seem to be any reputable source for the original

Road damage generally follows a 4th power law so doubling the weight from 4,000 to 8,000 pounds means 16x the damage to the road.

Even increasing weight by 20% means doubling the road damage. Drivers should pay for what they use and damage.
