Sentience does not reliably protect humans from being exploited or killed, and it does not prevent animals from being eaten or killed for sport. Just a reminder as we debate AI sentience.

While you were partying I studied the blade

When you were having premarital sex I visited the blade archives in the Vatican to do primary research on 14th century blades

While you wasted your days at the gym in pursuit of vanity I completed my dissertation on Oakeshott type XIIIa German longswords

We were remembering an interesting space documentary we watched a while back and decided to look it up to watch with kiddo and it turns out Disney+ purged it and you just can't watch it anymore, the end.

I went to see the new Spider Man on opening night, and I like Spider Man a lot, but there is no way that this one is "the best one yet" or the present 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. I like the performers in their roles and all, but both of the Spiderverse films are a lot stronger.

I did a lot of interviewing when I was at Microsoft, sometimes 5-10 ppl a week. I didn't find out until much later that some candidates were ghosted by the process. It shakes me to the core to know I was part of this and I apologize unreservedly to anyone who experienced it. Those are not my values.

Oh fuck yes. This is a really shitty practice. Anyone who gets as far as a screening interview deserves a response for sure. I’d extend that to anyone who applies but that’s more debatable.

In an hour I will be doing my first livestream presentation since I joined YugabyteDB. It sure would be fun to see some familiar sqlfamily faces, just saying. :) You will learn something even if you are not yet in the distributed SQL world!

The algorithm just served me up a teaser video to let me know that a trailer is coming out tomorrow for a show entitled "Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi" and I need everyone involved in that GTM to, like, watch a sunset or something.

One of my favorite work from home things is when I go to close my office door and the dog is right outside, I ask him if he wants to join the upcoming meeting or not. It amuses me to no end. "Hey buddy, do you want to join the geospatial sync?"

I used to eat a spoonful of peanut butter around 3 pm for a snack, but I knew that was pretty childish. So now I eat a spoonful of Nutella.

This was Microsoft life every day, it is such a bizarre dynamic
all the work done to make beautiful compelling pitches to someone who works at the same company as you, hoping for the chance to do the job they're paying you for. all the work no-one external will ever see.

Imagine being the most decorated gymnast in history, almost dying, and media referring to you as “NFL Wife” as your greatest achievement.😑 Misogyny is a helluva drug. Smh.

Truly hope Simone is safe and makes a full recovery. What a horrible experience.

Listening to the Project Hail Mary soundtrack and it strikes me that Time Go Fishing absolutely sounds like something from Cirque du Soleil
