This isn't a simple case of incoherent messaging, it's slamming every button on the console at once in desperation as they realize how egregiously they've overspent on this relative to what it can return financially. In six more months they'll be promising it regrows your hair.
You’ve gotta use AI because it’s the future. But also it’ll take your job. But also it’ll create a paradise on earth and solve most of our problems. But also it’ll end humanity soon. But also you’ll get left behind if you don’t use it right now.

The Tree of Life web project is back! A phylogenetic view of biodiversity way ahead of its time (ca. 1995!), conceived and led by David Maddison, collaborative & human-curated, widely used in teaching. Defunct technology had doomed it until Travis, Danny, and Andrew revived it. 🥳🎉 🧪 #evolbiol

Thanks to Travis Wheeler (@wheelerlab.org), Danny Mandel, and Andrew Lenards, the original programmers for ToLWeb, for retooling the code to work on a modern OS! It is hard for me to believe it lives again.

New Past Lives: Weapons Sacrifices and the Long Road to the Viking Age. The Romans never conquered Scandinavia, but thousands of Roman-made items - largely weapons - were dumped into bogs far beyond the frontier. Why that happened opens the gate to the Viking Age. pod.link/1852618120/e...

at America's Largest Humor Website (at the time) Cracked.com, my job for half a decade was to pick images for the articles. Finding relevant stuff in the public domain was a creative task that often inspired me to write more and better jokes. Even using Getty images was more creative than AI.
We already had free art for people who are broke or bad at designing things, it's called the PUBLIC DOMAIN

Sorry chatbot lovers but the waning of Boolean operators in most search functions on websites has made my life actively worse. You can't find anything, you can only have things suggested to you.

During times of transition, I always think of the opening of Dune: "A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

What happens if a creator streams your game and is opted in? Does Twitch think it has the right to feed a developer's game into its AI slop factory? This has deeper ramifications than it seems on the surface.
Twitch now uses your channel to train generative AI by default.

Know the difference!
-When the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth, it's a solar eclipse
-When the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, it's a lunar eclipse

@hotgpod.bsky.social I was looking for some information in the podcast archive (I love that every episode is transcribed btw) and noticed something strange: episode 94 (the post-Hohenstaufen Q&A) is completely missing from the archive. It's not found in either season 4 or 5 either.
