I'm a part of it. Not separate from it. I walk on the ground and the ground's walked on by me, I breathe the air and change it, I am entirely interconnected with the world.

Curiosity is still making new discoveries, 14 years after landing. This time it’s 7 new carbon-containing molecules found by analyzing a sample taken 5 years ago.

You can’t have these discoveries with short sighted and destructive leadership.
NASA’s Curiosity Finds Organic Molecules Never Seen Before on Mars
Seven organic molecules were identified for the first time on Mars, increasing our understanding of the kinds of molecular preservation possible on the Martian surface.

In honor of #EarthDay, here is a reminder that there is a bot account that posts a photo of the whole Earth from a million miles away, taken by the Deep Space Climate Observatory, several times daily. You can view all the images (and zoom in) here: epic.gsfc.nasa.gov

More context on this #Artemis II image:

* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right

* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

MAKE AN EMERGENCY DONATION to Trans Continental Pipeline right now.

They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate there and they are overwhelmed with requests. CO borders KS, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

GO DONATE.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

So many people were detained extrajudicially, were tortured, or died because of Dick Cheney. You can't get to the danger we're in now without everything he did. The weapons he helped forge are ones we need to take away from U.S. presidents forever.

Heartbreaking. Teen Vogue surprisingly had some of the best political editorials out there. Hopefully these writers can group up to start something new and independent; I'd subscribe in a second.
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

Last night's PUP and Jeff Rosenstock show with @milliastrange.bsky.social was so much fun! Philly's emo/punk scene is incredible as always. I have a headache and some new bruises, but I always feel safe in those pits where everyone's looking after each other. 🤘💙

Great article about the Charlie Kirk murder, and the effects of messaging on public sentiment towards political violence.

GOP leaders point fingers at the left's rhetoric, but they seem determined to stoke violence in their own base with inflammatory reactionism from all levels of government.
One of the things we can be reasonably sure about based on the social science: The way Trump and his allies are responding to Charlie Kirk’s murder is likely to worsen our political violence problem, not help it

I appreciate that the article opens with an example where the recipients still got evicted. The cash assistance did not fix all their problems, but it crucially protected them from the parasitic systems built to keep vulnerable people down.

I made this drawing of the First Quarter Moon! I adore this phase for its balance of light and shadow, inviting the imagination to fill in the remaining semicircle.

I used a limited palette and binary brush, but I hesitate to call this pixel art, since it ended up being more freehand and scribbly.

I had the chance to enjoy the sky without distractions or responsibilities this weekend for the first time in months. It felt like reconnecting with an old friend.

Art like this takes me back to the hours sitting on my Lansdowne fire escape, basking in the atmospheric poetry. I need more of that.
We report: we see April come to an end, and we feel late, and like we are missing spring, and summer will be here before we know it. Our expert tells us we only have to follow the clouds, because their pace is the only one that counts in the end. Why not, we will give it a try.
