I promise Philly is a real place and I am a journalist and this is all true.

When you put unwanted dystopian robots on our sidewalks, you never know what Philly may do in response.

Meet Orifice the Awebot, who's spreading joy, surprise & mild terror - for free.

Orifice the Awebot is Philly’s ‘magical’ response to Uber Eats robots

I’m gonna start a Plaque Detective show to solve crimes like this:

A Pennsylvania state park a few weeks ago drained a lake to fix a dam, exposing an old bridge with a historic plaque on it. Somebody already took the plaque.

Wow! 76 years ago, Charles M. Schulz's PEANUTS premiered in newspapers and changed the game in so many ways! It was, and remains, one of my own primary influences and guiding stars, and I love it more every year!

Incredible reporting by @tinavasquez.bsky.social here. A story about how the people who put food on American tables are denied water or even the ability to carry it with them or meaningfully ask for it to be provided, lest they lose their jobs working in oppressive heat.
Despite farmworker death and another disabled by heat stroke, employer keeps sending people to fields
Florida Orange Gold has exposed workers on H-2A visas to extreme heat, but continues to bring hundreds of migrants to North Carolina

And yet, so many of the wipipo I know are convinced they/their stuff are in continuous imminent danger…
Crime rates in the US are lower than they have ever been in my lifetime.

It's amazing, and nobody really knows exactly why, and we do not talk about this enough.
i challenge you to post one optimistic take or belief today on bluesky

this needn’t be toxic positivity, just good ol’ run of the mill optimism/hope in the face of a torrential downpour of doom

If Brazil falls to Bolsonaro’s son, there’ll be few places to hide in S. America for leftists opposed to fascism. If they initiate an Operation Condor 2.0 they could succeed in wiping out the left. Unlike the 1.0 version in the 70s, this time there are few places to hide because of Palantir et al.

TSA says it is removing chairs at document checks in airports, requiring staff to stand for their shift.

TSA explained the reason as twofold: to ensure its employees meet its fitness standards and to create an amiable environment for travelers.

Absolutely fantastic. Take offs of Beckett and Lion in Winter.

I loved Second City. What great actors and the premise hit at the period. Local TV, Z level celebrities.

Great.
Dave Thomas is a wonderful "Richard Hariss", in the SCTV parody The Man Who Would Be King Of The Popes.

OMB has not repeatedly proposed a 55%+ cut to NSF because of 'woke' research—even if you eliminated all of the grants flagged in the Cruz report, you wouldn't scratch 10% of the budget. It is because NSF heavily funds universities.

OMB's focus on NIH and NSF, which has confused a lot of folks, pretty much boils down to stopping money going to universities.
But collectively, the narrow focus on grants to universities is misguided, especially when one accounts for the balance of where the money actually goes (source: NCSES). A plurality of federal R&D funding goes to businesses, followed by internal R&D expenditure, followed by higher education.
