Happy New Year! This year will mark ten years since my cancer diagnosis. Nearly 18 months of treatments, some really tough but it was an aggressive G3 tumour so I needed them. I’m so thankful for medical science, research etc and incredibly thankful to be here, living life to the full!
I’ve had 4 hospital referrals in the last year and it’s really annoying me that way hospitals use nurse practitioners to do an initial assessment (eg take medical history) to fulfill their waiting list timeframes.

The best camera is the one you have with you.

Expensive kit can be fun, but an interesting subject and good light are the most important aspects of photography.

It was raining, so this was taken with my Olympus waterproof compact camera.

This has been my most liked photo of 2026.
It stopped raining long enough for me to watch the sun set.

This is just after the sun dropped below the horizon.

Night, all.

9th anniversary of the Grenfell fire is approaching. 72 people died, thousands more scarred.

Main causes remain unaddressed.
Lust for higher profits
Unaccountable corporate power
Performance related executive pay
Failure of regulators
Indifference of govts to the cry of the people

Nothing changed.
Successive governments have failed to learn lessons of Grenfell Tragedy
The conditions that facilitated the tragedy remain unchecked

I’ve had a couple of surgeries recently under local anaesthetic. During the first one I was in pain and needed more half way through. With the second one I asked for an additional anaesthetic and it made all the difference BUT I was offered lorezapam because they thought I was an anxious person>

Here’s the truth, writes Jenny Riddell-Carpenter: the only reason a Farage-led majority is even conceivable is First Past the Post. Disproportionate systems distort outcomes – & amplify extremes. Fair votes aren’t a luxury. They’re democratic self-defence.

Anyone know why we don’t sell Bisolvon (bromhexine) in the UK for bad coughs? I bought some a couple of years ago abroad and it’s so effective compared to the OTC remedies available in the UK …

The story was always already about an impoverished unmarried couple facing a pitiless bureaucracy, having a baby in a barn, and then having to hide from a tyrant. The baby grew up to say that the poor were blessed and the neighbor is he who shows mercy. You can’t hide from the politics of all that.

This year, statues of tall men clad in all black with masks drawn up to hide their faces are disrupting the serenity of a Charlotte church's Nativity scene.

The figures are depicted approaching the Holy Family and the Wise Men with handcuffs as if preparing to make an arrest.

And there it is. Mark Twain was right.

When you’ve been through #cancer treatments, every time you hear of someone else with a diagnosis you feel it. Sending love and prayers to Joe Biden and his loved ones and all the other #cancer ‘havers’ ‘survivors’ and ‘thrivers’ out there and their loved ones … with lots of #fellowfeeling. #cansky

Scientific but not beyond this non scientist's comprehension.
My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?

Here’s a wee story about my brother that I shared a few years ago over on another social media site.

It’s about how we used to play with Lego together. Iain couldn’t squeeze the pieces together, so I was his “Lego Squeezer”.
