Ha! Whenever someone introduces new forms of social contract by way of control and property ownership mechanisms in dealing with issues of datafication, I’m like man, you are taking a wrong approach to natural power of human creativity and I damn know this because 👸🐈‍⬛

Where did blogs go? The scattered, reflexive free format of expression once entitled to every one, since turned into linkbait headliners, into AI slop explainer not just listing most probable vocabulary but ferret farms so you can make money from ad or from the subs(as in subscribers) *Sigh*

As public awareness and resistance ramp up, I'm regularly reminded that researchers have been addressing the environmental, geopolitical, and political-economic impacts of data centers for *a very long time*; legislators, journalists, et al just haven't noticed!
So much think-piecing and op-ed'ing about data centers. I wish folks knew that some scholars have been studying these things — as real estate, as geopolitical battlegrounds, as ecological disasters — for a decade+. Mél Hogan, Alix Johnson, Ingrid Burrington, Jen Holt, Patrick Brodie, et al
