#DLDday is coming, so I’m starting a thread over a few days.

DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) is all about spoken language. Words and sentences are tricky for people with DLD. And people don’t grow out of it.

I delivered in person 'Language for Behaviour and Emotions' training today to TAs.
What struck me was the number of questions. They were so motivated. It was refreshing.
Their commitment is often not recognised. Or at least to the level it should be.

Here's a positive message from Oxford University Hospitals about shorter referral times. How do we get this sort of thing to people who get their information (and thence their opinions and votes) from Daily Mail headlines and Reform? They won't read press releases.

'Language for Behaviour and Emotions' is a firm favourite of those working with young people with SLCN and SEMH. If you would like to take a peek at what it's all about a sample of the book is available here: www.routledge.com/go/language-...

A programme, developed by serious academics to help children have fun while they learn.. is anyone surprised it works?

We need more of this, please. 😊

We loved this so much we just had to put English subtitles on it, apologies to the French speakers for our translation. But this is what it would look like here in the UK if Farage or Lowe or another of their ilk got their own way.

What do you like to #eat? What #meals do you struggle with?

We are looking for people (16 years and older) to tell us!

We especially want to know if you have #DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) or have always found talking and listening tricky.

A small good (arguably v cute) thing happened in my garden a few days ago - a break from the doom scroll 👇🏼🪶
A very tiny drama on the garden step bird café:
a sort of stand off between Fingerbob the wood mouse & Dave the robin. In the end they both bottled it. It’s possible I’m too invested in this stuff but it’s giving me a lift so apols for the spam…

DLD is a difference and not a delay. Professionals need to think hard before using 'language delay.' It may be well intentioned but it can also be misinterpreted by families indicating that children can catch up.
