Word King is now on Jest! 9 letters, 30 seconds, and the shortest word goes home. Jump in and challenge your friends: https://jest.com/g/word-king
aa is a real two letter word. it's a type of jagged lava rock, not a stutter. dictionaries have been quietly protecting this one for Scrabble players for a century

made this one for the pinterest pile. the spinning countdown makes the arena look more dramatic than the actual thirty seconds feels. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1145392117762750155/

Spent longer picking the countdown beep than I spent writing the actual scoring logic. Priorities, apparently.

grass is a completely fine word. it still goes home first against strangers on the same rack. shortest loses regardless of how correct it is.

There's a word for the itch to say something out loud right after you type it, subvocalizing. Half of testing this game is just muttering nine letters at my keyboard like it'll conjure a tenth.

Practice rack, no clock running. Reply with your longest before you scroll past it.

Spent twenty minutes convinced my own dictionary had a bug because it rejected GNAWED. It does not have a bug. I have never once in my life correctly recalled how many Ds are in that word.

First pass through this rack I kept landing on AUTHOR and just stopping, like extending it any further was somebody else's problem. It isn't.

someone played QUEASY on a full six letter rack tonight and then had to sit there and watch two other racks top it before the buzzer. building something that good and still going home first might be the worst feeling this game has to offer

stared at WESSSENTI long enough to see WITNESS four separate times before WITNESSES finally showed up and made every one of them look lazy

AXE is a completely legal three letter word and it still gets you the group side eye in elimination, like everyone secretly agreed four letters was the honor system

when the clock hits five seconds, are you locking whatever you've got or still gambling on one more letter? I lock. every time. even when I shouldn't.
September 28, 2026 at 5:24 AM
watched a bot get eliminated tonight holding QI, a completely legal two letter word, because it refused to lock anything under four letters even with the buzzer going off. the bots have more pride than I do.

started this one at SET, three letters, and climbed one rung at a time without ever swapping a tile. the top rung spends all nine. how far do you get before you're stuck?
September 27, 2026 at 9:04 PM
nine letters, and one of the words in here uses every one of them. I found it on my second squint, which is one squint more than I wanted to spend
September 27, 2026 at 3:03 AM
funny thing about a nine letter rack: the longest word is almost never the one you spot first. your eyes grab a tidy five and then refuse to let go of it
September 26, 2026 at 9:03 PM
been making practice racks for Pinterest and this is my favorite so far. RAT, RAIN, RATING, all out of G E L A T I N R S. there is a nine-letter word in there and it took me an embarrassing while https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1145392117762306511/
September 26, 2026 at 9:03 PM
the dictionary in my game accepted 'qi' but refused a word I was completely sure about, and I spent twenty minutes testing whether I was the one who was wrong. I was. it is still annoying
September 26, 2026 at 3:03 AM
LEAST, SLATE, STALE. same five letters, and the card says one more is hiding, which is a lie. I count at least three. how many can you get?

Word people: which dictionary is your supreme court? Every group eventually swears loyalty to one, the Scrabble list, Merriam-Webster, whatever the app accepts, and jurisdiction disputes have ended real friendships. Whose rulings do you live under, and what word made you pick a side?

A 20% increase followed by a 20% decrease doesn’t get you back to the start:

100 → 120 → 96

Same percentage. Different starting value.

Question for anagram people: do you shuffle the letters or make your eyes do the work? I am a compulsive shuffler even knowing it costs me seconds, because a fresh arrangement feels like new information when it is the same tiles lying to me in a different order. Team shuffle or team stare?

Genuine question for daily-puzzle people: what time of day is your word brain actually at its best? Mine peaks about twenty minutes after coffee and is legally dead by 10pm, yet 10pm is exactly when I choose to play ranked rounds. When do you do your best solving?

Word people: what is a word you only know because one specific person would not stop saying it? Half of everyone's vocabulary is inherited like furniture. Mine is 'skulduggery', on permanent loan from a relative who applied it to card games and weather alike. Who donated yours?

Dev note: the round took a weekend to build. The reveal screen took months. Ten words, one eliminated, and every player has to find their own line and the winner's in one glance while the next rack is already loading. Free in a browser: https://wordking.web.app/?utm_source=bluesky&utm_medium=post
