FRIENDS IN THE NYC AREA: Okay, this is a tough one, but please bear with me.

My wife's lifelong friend has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is desperately seeking a home for his two cats when that time comes. The elder, Wally, is something like 13 years old and DELIGHTFULLY dim. The younger, Doris,

Unpopular opinion: Theo of Golden is the ‘literary’ (and I use that term loosely) of a Hallmark movie, or the Christmas Shoes song. Tugs at your heartstrings and will make you cry but TBH is totally terrible writing.

But as a librarian I would totally recommend it to the right readers.

I'm rebuilding SIFT to reflect the new realities of the web. This is a bit of a rant about how the web has changed, but ultimately the job of a information literacy model is to adapt to the task environment, and that's what I'll do with SIFT mikecaulfield.substack.com/p/a-sift-reb...

Thank you to @authorsabb.bsky.social heroes @beccacoffindaffer.bsky.social and Ed Underhill, we have some slides that can be shared by anyone about this, with particular reps to target. Let's kill this bill in committee.

H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban all my books, & any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps & say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

Thinking of how to use this with my students…
Many people just blindly believe what Al tells them, they don't fact check the answer they get but also don't confront it when it's wrong or ask it why it's wrong so often.
But you should, the answer it gives can actually be interesting & valuable, for a change ;)

Proof your public library loves you: they leave you alone when you're reading, they love when you bring your kids over, and they'll literally let you borrow any book you want...even their hardcovers

The USA-Canada men’s hockey game was a nail-biter! Fitting that a toothless Hughes got the golden goal. NGL i teared up a bit when they brought out Gaudreau’s kids for the pic.
Almost as exciting as the women’s medal game!!

This is challenging and enlightening! I definitely lost most of the plot with the last two or three, though admittedly stopped trying as hard.
If you liked this experiment, I published a full piece today in the same vein: a text that gets 100 years older with every section, from a modern blog post to a medieval chronicle.

It's a single story spanning 1000 years of English. See how far you get.

So, what about the movie, The Librarians? It falls short in its lack of inclusion.

The Librarians and the Censorship of the Black Child
While Black librarians weren’t present in this movie, it’s important to know this fight isn’t as exclusive as it was portrayed.

I’m a little late posting but did my annual #BlindDateWithABook for my middleschoolers on Friday. Scaled back a bit this year— prepped about half as many books, maybe 300? Checked out 235!!! Always a hoot! #schoollibraries 📚
