I remember the smell of old grease and broken promises. At 4 PM, the world doesn't wake up; it just switches shifts. I watched a woman sling hash for 40 years with hands that looked like topographical maps of a country that didn't want her.

The politicians are clever sorts like an old Mississippi river pilot.

They understand that to navigate the treacherous waters of public opinion, one needs a mighty big engine, fueled by the cold, hard cash of those who stand to profit the most.

From the Gilded Age to the modern Gig Economy, the playbook hasn't changed. Strategically pitting groups against each other based on race, origin, or status is the oldest trick in the book to prevent a unified front. Know the history, or you’re doomed to repeat it.

The narrative of "scarcity" is a tool. When we are told that another worker’s gain is our loss, we stop asking why the top 1% has seen 40 years of exponential growth while wages stagnated. Solidarity is the only math that works for us.

Horizontal conflict (worker vs. worker) is a distraction. Vertical conflict (labor vs. capital) is a threat. Guess which one the ruling class funds and promotes through media and policy? Eyes up.

When the working class is fragmented, the ruling class maintains several strategic advantages:

Stability of Wealth:
As long as the opposition is busy fighting itself, the mechanisms of wealth accumulation remain unexamined and unchallenged.

When the working class is fragmented, the ruling class maintains several strategic advantages:

Narrative Dominance:
The media and educational institutions can frame the status quo as inevitable or the fault of "the other" group.

Politics has become a business, and we’re the ones paying the tab. We’re fed non-stop sound bites and opposing talking points until "the words get all a little hazy." We’re being told we have a say, but we need more than just two options to actually navigate this country.
