I’d argue the entire media does this consistently
notable -- Fox News hasn't mentioned Trump's transphobic attack on Annie Andrews a single time. Not once. And they cover a lot of his Truth Social posts.

Almost like they're trying to protect their audience from learning the true depth of his depravity.

For the millionth time, it’s so obvious that these should be banned. Like, overwhelmingly so.

I think the tech giants have also realised the way the wind’s blowing - Meta seem to have pivoted hard to their necklace thing (which does exactly the same stuff but is less useful.)
the most predictable consequences ever:

Strikingly, every single one of the many smart glasses videos we found were captured by teen boys — and their bad behavior was overwhelmingly directed at girls.

Teen boys are using Meta's AI glasses to harass and bully victims -- overwhelmingly girls -- at middle schools and high schools.

I will say again that we should be doing this in Berkeley—not just in the Elmwood but at least one street near every school, in every neighborhood.
NYC is opening 160 car-free (but treat-filled) streets and plazas to enjoy fun and safe fall festivities this spooky season.

The dissonance between “I’m making brave principled stances” and “everyone has to be nice to me” is always odd to me. Knowing people won’t like your stance is what makes it brave and/or principled.
Public anger comes for John Roberts

The chief justice’s summer retreat in Maine used to be one of boating, potluck dinners, touch football and easy friendships. Locals called him “John.”

Now a swirl of anger has been rising at him, transforming his getaways. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...

Good from @mattdpearce.com. My read on this bill is it's calibrated to address the tension between public investment and the downsides of government subsidy (i.e. strings).

Detractors will ask why invest in a failing business, but news is a public good and a vacuum left by dying news orgs is worse.

When asked initially who they were most likely to vote for, 46% of voters chose Drazan and 44% named Kotek.

An additional 3% picked Brett Smith, the lone third-party candidate in the race, and 8% were undecided.
OPB poll shows Oregon governor’s race virtually deadlocked
The poll shows Republican state Sen. Christine Drazan with a slim lead over Democratic Gov. Tina Kotek, though it was within the survey’s margin of error.
