Our minds aren’t equipped to handle AI
AI is junk food for the mind: easy, tempting and ultimately very bad for you.

Is AI the End of Math As We Know It? | Quanta Magazine
Mathematicians are facing the sudden shift with grief, anger, and a desperate search for fresh ideas: “If we don’t adapt, there’s just no more math in 50 years.”

The secret to surviving a PhD is having a 'secret PhD' in which you do whatever the hell you fancy.

’Digesting’ AI-generated proofs is so bloody demoralising. I’d rather leave academia.

I believe these are the main sociological reasons why people use GenAI.

From a “psychological” perspective, I believe people use it because they feel that they are not enough: that they are not capable enough, that they need this one more feature… This of course has a snowball effect.
It's not just in academia: Lack of curiosity and narrow extractivist thinking is everywhere, even among people who formerly cared but are ground down by worry, exhaustion, and exploitation. It's like a planetary scale auto immune disease. Gaia has a connective tissue disorder and chronic depression.

As an academic, it feels like some colleagues have lost the ability to engage deeply: they don't want to read an article unless it directly answers a question they already have... basically like using a chatbot they only want an answer to a current issue & not to actually learn anything or explore.
