A6: I see children reimagining and revising the media, stories, and situations they are surrounded with as "materials" to play with. This is why I love family #literacies work as well, to connect and engage with children's social worlds, as they reimagine them through their play practices.

exactly!! and with that framing, it becomes really natural to think about how props, lighting, and the space are also collaborating as part of the overall effect of the play. I thought about this during our last performance, which the children performed outside as an immersive "stage" #literacies.

A5: Play has a politics. Name it. It's important to provide non-examples of what harmful play might look like, feel like, and sound like. Of course, do this with participants' consent, but make it collaborative. What might seem playful for some might be precarious for others #literacies

A5. I think the rise of calling things "cringe" has made being playful and taking risks more challenging (as Ocean Vuong has argued). I do wonder if the seeming online shift to "whimsy" is in part a move away from the self-consciousness and fear of being seen as "cringe"? #literacies

A4: I learn most when in community with others. It's important for me to construct learning around group activities within my teaching. Whether posing imaginary scenarios to PSTs or asking students to take the perspective of a literary character, I find most comfort in collaboration. #literacies

A4: I think this is really the power of arts-based research and pedagogy. Of course theater isn't free from individualism, but it has offered me and my participants a powerful language to talk about the impacts of different ways of working and playing together as an ensemble #literacies

A1. I've also been curious about the more playful turn in pop. We went through a various serious, introspective phase (post-Lorde, post-Billie) of pop. We seem to be in a bit more playful era (Sabrina, Chappell, Olivia to a degree). #literacies

A2. "Try things out!" tends the guide my classroom, esp in methods courses. I can't remember/find the meme but it was something like, "sometimes you're a flop and sometimes you're a slay." I always want to make room for the flops and the slays b/c life and teaching is a mixture of both! #literacies

My personal and professional life have been upended lately. I’ve found tapping into my inner child and teaching kiddos how to play Pokemon TCG at one of my local card shops to be a powerful outlet for #literacies play and brevity. ❤️🩹
