Storyteller, story listener, ranter, procrastinator. I teach Community Development @Murdoch Uni, Wadjuk Noongar Country.
Good that the #ArtofPeace artists and seminar participants have had a chance to visit the #carrolup truth telling gallery and hear some of the #StolenGenerations story from the curator (who is also a SG descendant)
February 2, 2025 at 4:45 AM
Grateful to hear from the #ArtofPeace curators and artists on this second symposium day
February 2, 2025 at 2:08 AM
We are hearing from a great range of educational scholars today, including another colleague from Murdoch Uni, Kinley Wangmo who research is focussed on Bhutan's mathematics curriculum
December 5, 2024 at 2:59 AM
However, there are lots of challenges including financial constraints, and the need for further professional development for teachers

Bhutan has a rich oral tradition, but a teaching practice that often makes students think 'history' is boring. Dorji has found that #OralHistory is being used by teachers to bridge that gap
December 5, 2024 at 2:36 AM
Dorji S Kheng is now up - I heard a version of this talk at the #OHA2024 conf in Melbourne but couldn't post coz I was chairing the session! Great research into the use of #OralHistory in Bhutanese schools
December 5, 2024 at 2:34 AM
Tenzin Dorji is demonstrating how Bhutan is well placed to connect in to innovative educational approaches that connect with nature, culture and mindful living.
December 5, 2024 at 1:45 AM
In this provocation, Tenzin is offering examples of transnational experiential education programs. Quoting our colleague Dave Palmer's work on Yiriman Project to consider benefits of intergenerational cultural learning
December 5, 2024 at 1:42 AM
So good to hear Tenzin Dorji (PhD candidate who I'm privileged to supervise) talk about his vision for holistic #Communty based education in Bhutan
December 5, 2024 at 1:37 AM
I feel a real sense of honour to be part of this interdisciplinary Australia-Bhutan Conference at #ECU - such a sense of excitement which is a bit weird for an academic event! Now learning about the Royal University of Bhutan from keynote Rinchen Dorji
December 5, 2024 at 12:47 AM
I ran out of steam for live posting the final keynote from Timo Ylimouni (remembering + longing the non-absences) but this is deeply weird - during WW2, the Russian army re-purposed Finnish memorials and gravestones for their own monuments! @everydayheritage.bsky.social #recycling #materialmemory

Lamp for Mary by Mikala Dwyer is just to the south of Darlinghurst, if anyone is interested
November 28, 2024 at 7:05 AM
Although as an aside, this map also (I *think*) includes Mary's Place, the site of a rape commemoration for a lesbian hate crime
November 28, 2024 at 6:59 AM
Dyson talking about the challenges and sensitivities of recognising heritage that is mostly about activity and relationships, not buildings
November 28, 2024 at 6:51 AM
And rounding this great session is Cynthia Dyson talking about an LGBTIQA+ heritage study she did with consulting group #WayBackWhen in the City of Yarrah
November 28, 2024 at 6:46 AM
Wyndam argues the statues were defamiliarised by their destruction - before they had been taken for granted. She is basing this on ethnographic research in Afghanistan during preservation projects by UNESCO+ ICOMOS
November 28, 2024 at 6:33 AM
Post lunch @everydayheritage.bsky.social session, Sharpay Wu exploring the performance of everyday heritage through animation storytelling. She is interested in how digital artist engage with 'Chineseness' + cultural heritage - specifically looking at Yeedia studio

What was once seen as a place of power and #empire is now a multivocal site of messy complexity #Everyday#Heritage
November 28, 2024 at 4:31 AM
In the 21st century, art has increasingly been used to explore the multilayered stories of the heritage site. One of my favourite #memorials - Irish famine - was installed in the courtyard in 2009
November 28, 2024 at 4:30 AM
The significance of archeological finds in terms of giving insight into lived experiences of people who passed through HPB was slow to be recognised - now we take this for granted
November 28, 2024 at 4:27 AM
They are focussing on Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney, a multi-payered site that has been constantly reinterpreted by and with its communities
November 28, 2024 at 4:18 AM
Agency and activism is also really vital for the challenge it presents to ideas about 'objectivity' in #heritage assessment
November 28, 2024 at 4:02 AM
@tracyireland.bsky.social notes that the idea of the 'everyday' is anti-capitalist and counter hegemonic. @everydayheritage.blusky.social similarly aims to disrupt dominant heritage narratives

Photos of unofficial memorialisation at Magdelene Laundries - again synergies with childhood institutions like Parramatta in NSW or Wandering Mission WA @everydayheritage.bsky.social
November 28, 2024 at 2:30 AM
So many intersecting issues with Stolen Gen and other Mission sites in Australia -difficulty or weirdness of what counts as 'heritage' @everydayheritage.bsky.social
