Overjoyed to have my poem “The Day Shane MacGowan Died” after Rob Taylor’s @roblucastaylor.bsky.social “Weather in Dublin” in the spring issue of CV2 @cv2magazine.bsky.social. I waited a full day to open and savour it.

JESSICA LEE MCMILLAN The Day Shane MacGowan Died After Rob Taylor's "Weather in Dublin” the day Shane MacGowan died, the streets were slicked with oil & grit caked up Main to Hastings. inside Carnegie, "A Pair of Brown Eyes" trilled from the library thanks to the coolest librarians. his voice unbolted my chest like the laughter ringing down the spiral stairs mingling with the smell of soup, offering a thin forcefield from the stoop and down the street a 222 where rooms & cells decide the same folks' fate; none so different from the cells where Shane sang stories through the masonry of every hurdle in life like the Downtown East Side writers' words of survival & awe vaulting the steel dome. there, the three ginger ales on the writer's table told me of my own narrow escape. the day Shane MacGowan died, I couldn't pour my heart into an object to write. I had cried through Shane's obit and the email to some bureau again that yes, dad died living in an SRO.

I asked the class what they do with their insecurities and the boy who missed my preamble about generations of men who won’t talk about their emotions says, “I just push it down, like a man. There’s no point talking about it.” And, he got the last word in before the bell. Amen, it’s Friday.
