Right about now (BDST) W/C L.E. Healy, the AAEAF armaments officer, received a call from the Air Ministry reminding him that the 1000 lb bomb had not been cleared for use on the Hawker Typhoon. Healy replied with one of the finest memos of WW2.
RCAF Typhoons had dropped 48 of them that morning.

Incommunicado in beer judging so failed to post breaking news earlier today: Greene King selling its Old Speckled Hen brands to Spanish brewer Estrella Damm, now brewing in Eagle Brewery in Bedford. GK is building new plant in Bury St Edmunds so is not leaving brewing but is still a curious decision

I've been looking at the images of Helen Richey's notepad as held by the SDASM Archive, and the life of an ATA pilot was certainly a busy one! Her notepad includes the addresses of friends in London and jotted down quotes she wanted to remember.
