Don't worry! A year or so into the life of some of them a scandal will drop about them accepting money from publishers to allow slop into the Premium Filtering Service. Then you'll only have to pay for *eight* different curators! 🥲

Note to future self: If you ever fool around with a post-grad, ALWAYS read their thesis before getting to third base. There is no excuse. You will regret not doing so later.

I have zero clue on how, nor the resources to, get a DDS drive. However, I think I might be able to scrounge up a DAT drive from my contacts. I have a hunch that while the drive electronics of a standard DAT drive won't be happy with a DDS tape, I might be able to tap the mag pickup álá vhs-decode.

Hi! I know a few people that are tape freaks [affectionate] but aren't very tech savvy. Because of them, I've been tinkering with VHS and LTO tapes for a while. My interests are more in the RF realm, but I couldn't help but get nerd-sniped by the idea that tapes are just RF transmissions in stasis.

In computing there's the idea of a "space—time tradeoff" that's normally applied to algorithms, but analogously you could say that there is a sort of "efficiency" in vibe-coding everything. The tradeoff is that the code is more bloated, and your mind withers. The compiler demands of you a sacrifice!

The most profound moments of personal growth in my life, and the most cherised memories I have with my friends and family, have been through the struggle of collaborating in projects. Even if it never amounts to anything, the journey was worth it! I became a better person & helped the people I love.

I've dreamed for almost two decades for an open source (and open data!) implementation of WolframAlpha. I'm not against using natural language to interact with computers, but LLMs don't Do That. The data powering these projects is open, but is the data powering the developers of these projects open?
