Around 10M "everyday people" lost their homes.

Unemployment jumped from 5% to 10%.
2008 was the opposite of today. It was terrifyingly bad for the investor class. For everyday people not much really happened.

here is the thing. if you tell me that you believe that race is a biological category and that it is a guide to the objective superiority and inferiority of groups of people, i am not calling you a racist to *insult* you, i am calling you a racist because it best describes your beliefs.
not only that, they are demanding that they not be called racist when they are observed to be signing up to support the racist

Only the left have agency taken to absolute absurd degrees, nothing bad can ever happen that isn't our fault.
Hard to disagree with the substantive point being made here about crime being ignored, but the framing that the left is “squeamish” about dealing with these shops doesn’t seem relevant at all to that point. The police aren’t failing to tackle this crime because of the left!

The problem is that one of the reasons our response to COVID was so shit was that Boris Johnson was in charge of it, and Johnson was a media darling shitehoused into power by our utterly malevolent press. So you see why they wouldn't want to enquire too deeply and prefer easy answers.
Yes...but prevention of infection harm was not and should not have been the only harm we were thinking about it. This is my point.

Imagine having the two decades we've just gone through and still thinking this just needed the right sort of chap to make the right call.

We dismantled all our state capacity and then stomped on anyone who tried to fix it.

This is a systemic failing that people like Goodall are part of.
This the problem. There were legitimate alternative policy choices between what was done and the “anti science far right.”

This is the kind of thing that radicalises these guys. A bunch of "legitimate questions" where they're convinced they have the right answer, countered by a load of people who know what they're talking about telling them they're wrong. Expect to see Goodall become Rod Liddle within a decade.
“I’m glad we live in a country that is deferential to expertise - but at times in the pandemic, that did go too far.”

“I’m not sure school closures were a price worth paying.”

Apple charges people ~20% more than the Patreon list price and they keep the difference for themselves. They also hold the proceeds of iOS app sales for 75 days, making it impossible for creators to accurately predict earnings. They basically inserted themselves in order to rip *more* people off
Any of you using the ios version of Patreon to support me, switch to the browser version instead, cuz the apple fees have actually taken over 3000 usd from me in the course of a year
I'm begging you not to use apple products. This shit is devastating to creators like me

Their plan is to say as little as possible and win by default, which in their mind is the safest path that doesn't alienate anyone. This misses the opportunity to galvanize the public around important issues, and then they throw up their hands about how the voters are ignorant and apathetic
I do find it amazing that even in this moment, the Dems can't come up with some sort of "Contract for America" like language that offers an alternative to Trump. Maybe they have it, but whatever governing vision they have is lost in the noise.
Jeffries: "They have nothing to run on. We're going to run on fighting for an affordable America."
