Bioessentialists believe that essence precedes existence (and that sex's essence is assigned by a doctor's glance at birth). "Born this way" for the gays fed into this, but it served to get them their rights. It's not a perfect solution, but replacing "ASAB" with "neural sex" may do the same for us.
of course no other political project is able to muster an adequate defense of trans rights if we ourselves can't even move beyond the "gender =/= sex" distortion towards "sex is the gendering of the body"

We lost the first battle by adopting "gender identity." This was the second battle we lost as a result of losing the first. No cis person says they identify as their gender. It semantically marked us out, and it's obvious to see why "sex ≠ gender" and "transwoman/transman" followed.

Agreed. “Gender is social expression” is a milquetoast explanation. The truth is that everything about the sexed body and the gendered self are so intertwined that changing one immediately has consequences for the other. There is no way to separate them in practice.

I'm gonna be extra salty today b/c the only (no-hrt loves her gock) "trans woman" I live near fucked me and my husband over behind our backs and put us at physical risk over the pettiest imagined slight. I could have had the cops called on me as if I was breaking and entering. I am so sick of this.

I think what's given me the most of a complex is how many times cis women who called me their "friend" got offended watching me be assaulted walking with them. They weren't offended on my behalf. They were offended that a man would give me any attention over them, even violation. It speaks volumes.

Every time you reply to bad faith assertions that trans women have advantages in sports because of past T, somewhere a scared trans girl is being denied E. She's watching herself become visibly disfigured in the mirror day after day. She deserves better. Trans boys deserve to grow big and tall too.

Interacting with such cool people on here is already giving me the will to start writing the articles that've been rattling around in my head for so long. I've been hanging by a thread for so long, putting out one fire after another, and it's nice to see well adjusted trans women on this platform.

I am the flavor of autistic such that I am a social butterfly irl but cannot wrap my head around online interactions & the various expectations across social media. I thrive on facial expressions and body language, and expressing my thoughts in such limited short-form sans tone is baffling to me.

One of the main reasons I'm here is b/c I am stuck in a place with no trans community. I went to the local pflag trying to find cheap HRT when we lost our insurance this year, and they told me I was being "transmedicalist" for that. All I said was I needed it to live, but they kicked me out to die.
