Now that I’ve sat with my thoughts on The Odyssey for a few days, I find I really disagree that Nolan doesn’t know how to write women or that women are one note in the film. I LOVE Circe’s fierce hatred and feral power, Calypso’s melancholy, and Penelope’s anger, so bitter it touches even her son

You write a book for the person who's gonna love it. And you know they're out there. And some people are gonna hate & some will think it's just ok. That's life.

And every couple of months, a Cuban Missile Crisis. This can’t go on.
It's Jan 6 every day, it's a Watergate burglary every night. It's a guy living in your crawlspace, stealing your mail and your meds. It's a creep taking pics of your kids at soccer practice and waving your tax returns at you when you tell him you're gonna call... someone. American horror story.

I was just talking to a friend today about Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - new books every month, totally for free, for kids ages 1-5.

My son was part of the program - this is a copy of the letter that came with his last book, right after his 5th birthday.

So pro-life means jailing women who miscarry but shrugging when the deranged president says “a whole civilization will die tonight.” Do I have that right?

I need writers to stop writing flop-sweat articles claiming “everyone” uses AI. Like baby you give away your artistic soul if you want, no one’s stopping you, but you don’t get to self-soothe on a lie. You’re not an artist anymore and other people still are, and that’s the price of your laziness

Why would I use "AI," I actually know how to fucking write
I keep seeing "all authors use AI, the real issue is they're being forced to be sneaky about it" headlines.

Full stop No. This is a lie peddled for normalization. It's schoolyard-level pressure tactics "C'mon, all the cool kids are already doing it. We won't tell. It's fine. We're on your side."

Uh, 'interesting' way of presenting this... the only 'authors' I'm aware of using AI are the lazy, unethical, incompetent grifters who don't give a shit about their readers or real writers. People should stop using it, not resent that they have to 'lie about it.' Jesus.
Authors are using AI. Publishers know it. And now, says publishing consultant Thad McIlroy, authors are being forced to lie about it. One cancelled horror novel didn’t just end a career—it exposed an industry-wide reckoning. https://thewalrus.ca/new-york-times-ai-generated-shy-girl-mia-ballard/

Reviewing a book, really wrestling with it intellectually, is such a pleasure and it’s so painful to see someone give away this pleasure for…what, cutting the world’s smallest corner?
Why write book reviews if you don't have your own opinions on what you've read? Using AI to write a book review's substance in the way this writer did is so embarrassing and intellectually void. Ideally, you wouldn't even look up anything anyone else said about the book. (Or I wouldn't, at least.)

I don't like Amazon recommending books to me based on what I've already read. I don't like them trying to "customise" my reading. I don't like any platform which does that. I like the serendipitous, the surprises, the exciting finds I come accross by looking for myself, be that bookshops or online.
