You know how (Aussie) Medicare got hacked by OpenAI and we were saying a human who did (directly) would go to prison?
Here's a petition to hold gen ai companies accountable for THEIR gen ai 'agents'.
Tell Albanese: AI crime, CEO time
An OpenAI agent broke into Medicare in June, and if you or I did that, we'd be facing jail time. So why aren't AI CEOs?

Went to see about getting another external hard drive. Three years ago I bought a great 8TB one for $90. The same drive, refurbished, is now $270. 😮‍💨

Cool. We don't want it. 🖕
PS5 Just Got A PS5 Pro-Like AI Upgrade, But Don’t Expect It Everywhere Yet
The base PS5 console is no slouch when it comes to games, but compared to the PS5 Pro, it doesn't pack the same visual punch. That could change soon, as Sony has unveiled a new AI-upscaling upgrade for the older machine called Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR). Like PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), it is designed to make games look sharper and maximize performance. While PSSR will still remain the "gold standard" for what Sony games can look like on PS5 Pro, QSSR looks like it'll offer a noticeable improvement on PS5. A result of the AI graphics collaboration with AMD, Sony says that it offers a "streamlined neural network architecture" for games. The only catch? For now, only two PS5 games will support it: Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei--which is getting a new Complete Edition this month. Here are a few samples of it in action: https://youtu.be/RcFYsDKbAIk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E929-XwrS_Q "QSSR adds more pixel-level clarity and stability to our environments, bringing out extra detail amidst the busy streets of Madripoor, the dense alleyways of Shinjuku, and many other areas across Logan's epic journey. It’s a perfect companion to the launch of Marvel's Wolverine, and it brings a great taste of the PS5 Pro experience to our players on PS5," head of technology at Insomniac Games, Mike Fitzgerald, wrote in a PS Blog post. Jasmin Patry, lead rendering engineer at Ghost of Yotei developer Sucker Punch Productions, added that QSSR excels at "resolving the fine details" in characters and environments that previously wasn't possible on the base PS5. Both PS5 exclusives are receiving a patch today to add QSSR as an additional graphics option, and Sony says it will be offered to all PlayStation developers soon. If it's implemented widely and across many more games, QSSR could become a big selling point for the PS5, as the console will be six years old in November. Price hikes have made it more expensive to jump into the current console generation, and for anyone who can afford the $900 PS5 Pro, stock seems increasingly harder to find as demand begins to outpace supply. In Japan, potential consumers are now being asked to enter a lottery system and prove they've played at least 60 hours over the last two years on their current PS5 console. In comparison, an improved gaming experience on a regular PS5 console sounds like it makes financial sense--even if the console was much cheaper when it first launched in 2020.

Your phone might already have built in alerts to tell you if an air tag is near you. Check your settings. Mine is called "unknown tracker alerts." It's disgusting we need these things at all, and worse that a company wishes to enable that behavior. I understand the idea, but I don't accept it.

Not only is this offensive to trans folks and the queer community as a whole, it's an attack against mentally ill and disabled folks. We've been telling you they want to bring Ugly Laws back for years, and y'all continue to ignore us.
Tuberville also suggested we need to “bring back mental institutions as a normal part of our society.”

Reading, and writing, are holy.

I love reading novels because they tell me something. They say: "this is what someone believed enough to dedicate months or years of their life to say." This is just as true for the trashiest pulp as it is for the highest literature.
They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today.

I'm AuDHD, so I think things are imprinted of their own volition sometimes. There's no one explictly stated to be ND, but I think there are a number of my characters one could read that way. #SpoonieAuthChat

Meanwhile, I get dragged in reviews for having no spice/behind closed doors happening in my romance novels. 🫠 Someone will always have something to say. Write what you want. And to readers: if it's not your thing, then just move on. There are plenty of other books out there.

One of many reasons I prefer writing in the fantasy/paranormal genres is that my worlds are entirely queernormative. The real world is on fire, so may as well enjoy the escape into somewhere better, right? 🫠

May they never know peace again. And fuck all the people in power who allow these things to continue to happen without consequence.
This is horrible. This is disgusting. This is normalized.

Seriously, is anyone truly shocked?

Upset, of course. Appalled, definitely. But shocked?

These men raped a woman for hours, and effectively got a finger wag for it.

That's the standard. Rapists need to feel fear again.

That culture of accessibility drove me to turn the alt text reminder on , and kept me in habits that actually helped me walk my talk. Like not being ableist and using alt text.
I know I’ve drawn blocks on this (SO BE IT), but since I became more aware of it in the last few years, and also because early BlueSky had more of a culture of accessibility about it I say this:

When you don’t use alt text, you’re telling the blind and low vision folk here to go fuck themselves.
Why are so many viral post on here that suggest any kind of radical messaging, just screen caps of an x post without alt text?

I haven't and won't read it; they're always the same: about the perspective of the cut off parents and the "experts" who aren't the therapists working with the adult kids cutting them off.

It's an obvious power choice of whose perspective matters in the articles, and it's never the one leaving.
I'm not gonna quote post that estrangement article doing the rounds cos I ain't giving them the metrics but part of being in queer community is knowing a lot of people who are estranged from family. None of them broke contact for trivial reasons.

Currently working on a few books atm - two of which are fantasy. There is an urban fantasy hidden town of paranormal creatures, and the other is a Weird West story about monster hunters. Both are queer romance, of course. 😜

3 of my MCs deal with PTSD, all in various stages of healing/management. No one ever tries to "cure" them or make them feel lesser/broken for it. Their group is very accommodating and supportive, with various discussions about where someone's headspace is and what they need.

Being a *contemporary* fantasy setting, one of my favorite things to do was blend magic and tech. For example, one of the MCs needed a prosthetic arm and - thanks to magic - not only can you get a brilliantly engineered piece of hardware, you get to have full sensation back.
