Developing a sense of safety means being able to take things in stride, and parse out where to put our effort and attention. It's simple to make sound choices from a regulated system.

It's a great joy of life to bring home new socks. I like this shoe store on Vine in Berkeley, that also has quality socks.

When we are calm, clear, and soft hearted, it's simple enough to get along. That means we know where to focus.

I loaned out the label maker years ago, and was quite sad until it came back. The same thing happened when I loaned out my calculator.

In related news, it's Virgo season.

Now I know to keep these treasured objects nearby (along with the laminator, sheet protectors, and spare parts).

Simplify. When I lift weights, eat oatmeal, and put away the laundry, life gets sweeter. The practice of discernment frees up energy.

I'm entering the mid-40s this week, and am reflecting on what a wonderful childhood I had.

Two loving homes, horses and books, and plenty of healthy food. My parents are educated, spoke to us kids with intelligence, and asked questions to help us find our way.

May we carry these gifts forward.

I used to try and model excellence, though that can lead to extra pressure (for self and others). These days, I make an effort to model learning with a warm heart. It means more space for all of us.

The dojo is co-created sacred space. We put our phones on silent and store them away before bowing in. That means we can be fully present with each other.

Things are going well at the dojo. Our youth class is learning tanto and strikes, along with freestyle. The students know that developing their power, focus, and heart is all part of the practice.

The older I get, the more I focus on being reliable. Showing up early, putting in the preparation, and finishing projects is a skill set that any of us can learn.

It shows engagement and gives the group focus.
