stigmatizing Rowling’s weaponization of childhood not only requires personal withdrawal for most people, it necessitates something much more difficult: being a giant fucking killjoy. You should tell people discussing the show that you’re not watching it, and why, and you should let yourself openly cringe at your sister-in-law’s Harry Potter tote bag, and you should bring up unprompted that the onslaught of legislation against trans people makes you sad and angry, presuming it does, and you should do this because, not despite, the fact that it will make you look annoying as hell and may make everyone present uncomfortable. (You probably won’t even get the kudos of looking like a cool ally, because you’re still ultimately talking about Harry Potter. Sorry about that.)

jon ronson has written a book about men who go crazy online and he's dedicated an entire chapter to graham linehan.

graham is not going to like the observer review.
Ronson’s account of Graham Linehan is another harrowing tale of a man’s life ruined by the internet. Linehan was a beloved comedy writer, co-creator of Father Ted, and a prolific presence on Twitter, where he was well liked and respected. Then, in 2013, something began to shift, when an episode of his sitcom The IT Crowd, first broadcast in 2008, was repeated. In it, a man discovers his girlfriend is transgender and a brawl breaks out between the two. Viewers did not like the display of violence nor the supposed implication that the trans woman was “really” a man, underlying maleness bursting forth uncontrollably once she is angry. Linehan responded to criticism with polite bafflement, then defensiveness, and finally overt anger. He began to research transgender issues and developed a singular obsession with the topic, which has since gone on to comprehensively destroy his career and personal life. Linehan, who believes trans activism and indeed ordinary trans existence pose an existential threat to women, talks of little else (except, these days, a fervent pro-Israel stance). He tweets near-constantly, cloaking his obsession with supposed concern for the wellbeing of cisgender women, but he does not balk at aggressively insulting those women who disagree with him. Linehan’s self-ignited ruin stopped being satisfying for even his opponents to watch a while back, and now is only profoundly depressing. Ronson was once a good friend, but in refusing to endorse Linehan’s beliefs about transgender issues, he was added to his long list of his enemies. In The Castle, Ronson speaks to him directly, having been attacked countless times on Linehan’s social media feed. One thing that becomes clear, beyond the truly abject state of Linehan’s wellbeing, is that he is able to persevere with his campaign because he has convinced himself he is battling the greatest danger currently at play in the world. At one point he suggests that there are so many fewer serial killers nowadays because all the sociopaths have migrated to the internet in order to argue with him about trans issues instead. It reminded me of religious protesters screaming at me in Dublin once, as I walked into a reproductive-rights clinic that provided information about abortion. I was furious, but then forced myself to think about how I would feel or act if I truly, earnestly believed that every abortion is equivalent to the murder of a child. That might, indeed, drive me mad. The Linehan chapter is brilliant: insightful, candid and moving. I’m still not convinced that any broader crisis of masculinity or male purpose had much to do with Linehan’s downfall, though. He wasn’t at a loss or empty of purpose when he began his campaign. He didn’t turn to vitriol because he didn’t have anything else to do. His case is, if anything, notable for involving a man with an enviable life and abundant success throwing it away for reasons that to many in the outside world may seem obscure or deranged.

I've never seen such an effort to censor a document as I have the Amnesty International report on gender critical groups because of JK Rowling.

They removed the report from the Wayback Machine and now I got a DMCA strike on my Google Drive for having it. It was deleted and removed from my account.
