Nah, you're doing Grant dirty. They love super heroes, all their DC work starting with JLA in the mid 90ies were big love letters to the genre. Their work feels way less cynical and much more heartfelt than whatever guys like Millar and Ellis put out.

Replace movie with comic book and even then it's a stretch.

The COIN games have interesting settings but are mechanically a bit procedural (and most require 4 players). Cuba Libre is probably a good entry to the series.
