I don’t think that’s a good thing at all. It’s going to be devastating for trans-people. It’ll probably continue to be devastating for Palestine. It’ll be catastrophic for the Greens as a credible party and vehicle for those rightly disaffected by Labour.

Their ability to be a conscientious counter-force to Labour’s courting of the far-right will effectively be at an end. Burnham can now simply dismiss the Greens as being hollowed out by the cranks who were kicked out of Labour. Presenting them as a party of antisemites and conspiracy theorists.

It probably didn’t help that the Greens direct democracy model hasn’t been pressure-tested by entryism until relatively recently. Thats not to say they weren’t warned though. The last year has given them plenty of time to understand what they were dealing with.

My pet theory on this is because the Greens had already done the hard work and established a functional party-political machine and credible brand. It’s a lot easier for cranks to co-opt an existing party than create a new one. Especially if the old figurehead (Corbyn) and his project had failed.

Amendment 3 sought to include that the motion should not be used to “pressure, proscribe or discipline members based on affiliation with Jewish community institutions” - which had the support of party leader Zack Polanski.
