A while back, I wrote about antisemitism/Holocaust education after a school board removed a comic book from classrooms. Seems relevant:

"Selfishly, for me, the best method for teaching kids about the Holocaust would be the one that results in them not wanting to murder Jews."
‘Do not look behind you’

So, the Orioles are still (somehow) alive for the 3rd AL Wild Card spot. Baltimore's really unlikely path is pretty much:

O's go 3-0 at Yankees
White Sox go 0-4 (1 at KC, 3 vs COL)
AND
Rangers go 2-2 or worse (1 vs Mets, 3 at Twins), or Astros lose at least 2 (winning at SEA right now, 4 at A's)

Some of the players were in the tunnel, and the manager had to remind them to come onto the field to thank the fans after the final home game? YIKES. That's not the team spirit you want. But good on the skipper and Pete Alonso for doing this.

Boy, is Alonso the exact leader the Orioles needed
Pete Alonso on why he did this: "The people who have supported us, it’s not what they expected or wanted either. For people to still show up, come out to a doubleheader today, and really just show the true support, it’s special, and that should be recognized."

Oh, no, Pete Alonso...

Former Maryland WR Torrey Smith sounds like Uncle Baby Billy telling Terps fans they can't complain about another meh Mike Locksley season loading cause these NIL coffers are running dry. You can't get the salvation of a winning season unless you call the number on your screen right now.

Sean Manaea is wearing a "New York Is Love" Mets Pride shirt after pitching six solid innings to beat the Texas Rangers, the MLB's only team without a Pride night. Perhaps coincidence, perhaps not.

BREAKING: The Mets have signed Andy Green to a three-year deal to be the team's manager, per SNY's @chelseajanes.bsky.social. From interim skipper to full-time.

So we're 13 days into the season, Jaxson Dart and Jayden Daniels are (more than) likely out for the year, and the Bears are starting Case Keenum for his first NFL action in 1,009 days? Ooof.
Bears QB Tyson Bagent is dealing with a concussion and is in the NFL’s concussion protocol, sources say.

With Caleb Williams likely out with a hamstring injury, Case Keenum could be the starter vs the Eagles.

I would like to apologize to the Giants and Jaxson Dart for absolutely taking out their season with the BK Jinx yesterday in the SNY slack channel:

My dad put this together recently: Orioles’ record each year from age 5-18 for me, my brother and him. Especially brutal for me: 1997-2010, one winning season and 13 losers.

With today’s loss the years since make it 8 winning and 8 losing, but with just 1 playoff series win in that time

You really need to fire folks when this kinda thing happens as a deterrent. What the hell kinda managing is Craig Albarnez doing?
With two on and no outs, the Orioles had Samuel Basallo attempt to bunt. Basallo has one successful sac bunt in his professional career, occurring in Double-A in 2024.

He missed the first, fouled the second, fouled a swing and struck out

Looking at Sophie Cunningham's WNBA stats, it is no surprise that her podcast career is like her basketball one: She's a professional point misser.

Saw this a few days ago and was shocked to learn that there is a Browns linebacker named Justin Jefferson who wears No. 17, but... he was a 5th-round pick and he was inactive for Cleveland's Week 1 loss. So, still pretty sure this ad is some kinda AI hallucination deal.
@drewmagary.bsky.social Get ‘em before they sell out! WTF do they even try anymore?

Sean Manaea on Pete Alonso's game-tying, 9th-inning 300th home run curtain call: "To have that kinda reaction to an opposing player, could be anybody, is crazy to me.”

Kodai Senga, who gave up HR, on Mets fan reaction: "If it wasn't Pete Alonso.... because it is him, it didn't bother me."
Pete Alonso thanks Mets fans after 300th home run curtain call: 'I appreciate all the support'
After Pete Alonso hit his 300th home run, a game-tying solo home run in the top of the ninth inning on Tuesday night, the Citi Field crowd’s raucous reaction got the ex-Mets slugger out of the visitor...

Keith Hernandez in real life spent tonight's Mets broadcast eating steak, creamed spinach, and chocolate cake and just crushing television through 11 innings of a wild, wild game.
Oh damn. It’s the Keith Hernandez episode of Law & Order. (Keith plays first baseman “Drew Harding.”) it’s a ripped from the headlines story about uh a not at all Michael Jordan type star athlete whose deadbeat father loses gobs of cash gambling and ends up dead.

Pete Alonso looks at three straight pitches and doesn't use a challenge on strike three, which is well below the zone. (Nobody on and one out in the sixth, but still, Pete, that isn't even close to a strike...)

It was a liner off the right elbow (as Andy later noted) that knocked out Shane Baz.

Interesting to see this take from the data side, the commentary from the Liverpool community has been that Szoboszlai has been pretty poor in midfield so far this season.
Liverpool will be fine as soon as those PhDs in the analytics department make four or five clones of this guy

"And that's gonna be a forward pass no matter where it lands."

That's the most NFL sentence imaginable. That's just absurd. I can't believe it was said with a straight face.

“Dear Dr Spaceman, thank you for your submission, the New England Journal of Medicine does not publish x-rated cartoons.”
i tried to be very nice and gently explain this to him but he cannot or will not understand that having a column published on a platform that isn’t your own is not a freedom of speech issue it’s an issue with the writer’s work, and that’s a reflection on him

I think folks may have forgotten that the big push of there having been some kinda 9/12 unity came about early in 2009 as a Glenn Beck-invented protest movement against Barack Obama called the "9/12 Project."
I was a 30 year old high school teacher on 9/11.

Please miss me forever on talk about how it "united" us.

I spent the year fighting with casually islamophic coworkers (teachers!) and principals who were staging classroom "anthrax drills."

It brought out the worst in the worst people.

Homeboy traveled halfway around the world to make -EV decisions. Shameful.
Kyle Shanahan is still one of the most conservative coaches in the league on fourth downs.

I wonder if the more comfortable a color analyst feels in his role (familiarity with the job, prestige of broadcast, and person their workring with) the less they dig into to the game's details and get stuck talk about the narrative of the game they've constructed in their head.
The gap between the game Collinsworth is calling and the game actually happening on the field gets wider every year.
Collinsworth keeps describing this game as if the Patriots have scored 27 points, not 10 off penalties and scrambles
