Brian Altano being laid off from IGN is so wild to me. He's like THE PERSON that first pops into my head when I even think of IGN personalities throughout the 15+ years I've been keeping tabs on IGN stuff in general. Baffling move from whatever idiotic bean counters over there are behind it.

Sony saw "phys-" and didn't bother to read the rest of the word, they just knew they needed out ASAP.

Warlock, Metro 2039, No Law, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, and Witcher 3 in current year were the highlights of this year's Gamescom-thing for me. Honorable mention to Ontos and Blood of Dawnwalker. Solid year ahead.

Looking forward to voting for my favorite on Everybody Votes on my Nintendo Wii!

Digital Foundry developing their own open source capture software with lossless quality is really exciting for dweebs like me in the small bubble of folks who still capture gameplay for work reasons lmao (less exciting are the prices of storage lately for said lossless quality footage).

Update: The Wii disc drive is making a weird buzzing sound. Bleak. I would have expected the Wii to outlive both a dozen times over lmao.

GameSpot folks deserve so much better than Fandom's executive leadership. GameSpot could have grown bigger than IGN if it hadn't been constantly tossed between owners who'd lose interest before the ink on the acquisition paperwork dried. A victim of a decade of utter negligence.

Lmao sick, I just got laid off from GameSpot while on paid medical leave recovering from a gunshot wound.

Wishing all the GameSpot folks affected today the best. I've been watching GS off and on since the On The Spot days and it's been so painful to watch the website I've spent more than half my life browsing and following get absolutely gutted by a shitty wiki brand.

Oh, so they're also completely blinded with stupid levels of unobtainable ROI and numbers, wonderful lmao. Dead brand by the 2030s.
"CEO Asha Sharma wants Xbox to reach 1bn players a day (it currently hits 1bn a year)."

Oh.
Big cuts, but Xbox has managed to avoid closing any studios today. Double Fine and Compulsion go indie. Ninja Theory and Undead Labs will have new owners. Arkane Lyon process starts today. CEO Asha Sharma wants Xbox to reach 1bn players a day (it currently hits 1bn a year).

I don’t want this point to be lost in the discourse. Going digital-only means inequity for people who cannot afford internet or constantly purchasing new games. Libraries provide opportunities for people to experience games they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and that will be lost.
My child loves going to the library and checking out a new video game every week. Going digital only eliminates libraries as a way people can access games.

there are loads of reasons why the death of physical is bad news, but I think there are downstream effects that the industry is already suffering from today - that are only going to get worse

The single biggest story in video games this month, prompting widespread concern across the community, and the ESA has no comment. Thank you @duckvalentine.bsky.social for holding them accountable for their total failure on this issue
Sony is putting an end to physical PlayStation games, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the ESA doesn't really have anything to say about it. https://kotaku.com/video-game-industry-esa-digital-ownership-2000712263
The ESA Doesn't Want To Talk About Digital Ownership
Whose job is it, exactly, to deal with this?

I went to the countryside and did a little game jam last weekend. Finally got around to make a proper game out of all the oscilloscope stuff I got figured out years ago.

This is snek, two player versus, one button per player. Eat the other players tail to win.
