We are ecologists, foresters and scientists studying how forests work without direct human impact. Passionate about spontaneous natural processes. We are from Landscape Research Institute, Czech Republic.
Researches from #LandscapeResearchInstitute presented one of the outcomes of the #Bioremo project, “Forest Dynamics Following Ice-Storm Disturbance,” at the conference “Nature Monitoring Without Borders.” The conference was organized by the Podyjí and Thayatal National Parks.

Last week, our women’s UAV squadron conducted a series of flights over the Zlatník National Nature Reserve. Zlatník Hill (522 m), like the surrounding hills of the Central Bohemian Uplands, is of volcanic origin. The tree layer is dominated by oak and birch. #LandscapeResearchInstitute

Growth patterns and climate sensitivity differ for understory and canopy trees academic.oup.com/treephys/art...

1/2🌳 Our recent study made in cooperation with @czechglobe_xylo found that young trees growing beneath the forest canopy start their growing season earlier but also finish it sooner.
Growth patterns and climate sensitivity differ for understory and canopy trees
Abstract. While vertical forest structure is known to influence microclimatic conditions and tree growth, detailed knowledge of differences in seasonal gro

The Aesculapian snake prefers moist habitats in deciduous forests. It likes to climb trees. It is a non-venomous snake that primarily hunts small rodents. It is the symbol of doctors around the world. In the Czechia, it is a critically endangered species. #BioReMo #LandscapeResearchInstitute

How is climate change affecting Europe's natural forests? The Blue Cats contributes to a massive study spanning 84 years. Surprisingly most tree species show no consistent link between mortality and their position in the ecological niche—suggesting surprising resilience doi.org/10.1111/1365...
Trends in background mortality in unmanaged forests across Europe over the last century
In contrast to previous studies, dominant tree species in European strict forest reserves have not consistently experienced increasing background mortality. Conversely, forest reserves dominated by c...

Extensive bark beetle disturbance has significantly changed the forests of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park, but it has not stopped the life. This also applies to the rare habitats of waterlogged spruce forests, which occur on the bottoms of ravines and valleys in sandstone rock towns.
